Cicada killer wasps have arrived. Don't confuse them for murder hornets. | |

Male cicada killers don’t sting unlike Asian giant hornets, female cicada killers avoid people and rarely deploy their stingers. You’d actually have to handle them to ever be in danger" |

A strong reminder, if a child gets stung by a murder hornet get them to the Emergency room ASAP. The pain is unbearable and keeps getting worse for hours and it is not relieved by average pain treatments or medicines. If an adult gets stung, a lot of booze helps and soaking it in a hot bath. There are not words to describe the pain that you will never forget, worse than you can imagine. |

Its defenses include a thickened exoskeleton, the ability to run fast and evasively, warning coloration, stridulatory warning sounds, a chemical secretion, and venom" [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] Stridulation is the act of producing sound by rubbing together certain body parts. This behavior is mostly associated with insects... and this ant calls for recruits when it's in danger. That's fucking amazing. |

Interesting- I remember seeing one of these as a child when I lived in Maryland. I never knew what it was. It was crawling on the street, was the strangest thing. Pervnoff |

I triple dosed every strong pain medicine I had and nothing helped. I ended up drinking 80 proof alcohol in desperation knowing I should not have mixed so many strong pain meds in high doses and then to result to mixing that with alcohol. I broke every safety health rule out of desperation as the pain just kept getting worse every second, hour by hour. Ice did not help, constant very hot soak helped a little. To compare the murder hornet sting to an average bee sting is like comparing a tornado to a summer breeze. Do not take this warning lightly and get any child to the ER. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80585536 United States 07/29/2021 01:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They are extremely territorial. They live alone, because they are so mean, and often make a circular hole in the ground as a burrow. My sister found that out the hard way a few years ago when she went out to the mailbox, while I was in town for a visit. I looked out the window and she was running in circles near the curb, and then tore her shirt off and sprinted back to the house. Another thing to note about them...they can definitely sting you multiple times, and the resulting welts are impressive. Later that night she sprayed the heck out of the hole and dropped a rock over it. |
