COVID Vaccine Questions At Optometrist

I went to the optometrist to get an eye exam and contacts along with new glasses.

I was greeted right away with a temperature check and asked right out in the open “Have you taken the Vaccine?” “Tested for COVID?” “Had COVID?” There was even someone else in the waiting room and the receptionist just asked without a care.

All of my answers were “no”. I was then given this COVID sheet to fill out the rest of the information like address and phone number. I was not happy and all of this was unexpected.

I asked the receptionist who this form is for? She kind of nervously said it’s for them, the CDC asks that they do that but no one else will see it but them.

I know I should have said I’ll keep this appointment if we get rid of those questions and take that sheet with me. But I’ve been coming here for years and I didn’t want to feel like a douche or like I over-reacted. Plus, I needed new glasses and contacts.

I was then asked by the doctor during the exam which vax I had taken and I said none. I later asked him are they required to ask all of this? He said it’s good to know in case you get sick you let us know. Not a clear answer. And then asked me about why I didn’t get it yet and that he got it and his children all in their 40’s got it. And not to worry or listen to people.

I didn’t say anything besides, “oh sure I’ll get it soon.” I know his response would be mockery and disbelief if I went over the whole thing with him. Plus, they have my information and I don’t want to be on a list for anti COVID vax. And I didn’t come here to argue, just to get my contacts and new glasses.

I don’t know, this was out of the blue and I’m wondering if I did the right thing, maybe all optometrists are taking this information? I’m worried what they will do with my non vaccinated information. I’m sure a part of it is contact tracing.
