I had a '77 Ford LTD II. Wasn't particularly fond of it, I really wanted something smaller but it was cheap and had a good ride to it. I drove that thing all over Mass and Vermont when I worked at C&S warehouse in the late 1980's.

Re: I had a 1977 Cutlass Supreme
It was around 1985 or so. I was young and wanted to see a bunch of cities to see if I had any great desire to move to one of them.

Avis had a deal that you could rent a car for a week for $170 with unlimited free mileage.

So I rented a 1985 or whatever year it was Cutless Supreme. They were getting smaller but still a really nice comfy car.

Well, I drove for 1 week solid, only stopping for food, gas, and the occasional motel room.

wasn't really a detailed tour, but I would come to a city, drive the loop around it, stop for lunch or whatever, Read a newspaper. Then on to the next city.

When I turned the rental car back in, they checked the mileage and they could not believe how many miles I had put on it. :)

Gutless supreme
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80610556

Trust me, you felt quite gutsy in the power of cars like that.
 Quoting: Starbird

Oh man... I know the feeling.

My "First car" was a 1977 Ford Custom 500.... Not quite as cool as yours but, YES! I remember it well.

Kind of a mix between mint and lime green. Made a whirring noise as I drove it. (My friends called it "The Green Missile") LOL.

Had a shitty stereo it, I replaced it with one I bought at Grand Auto. (First stereo I ever installed) Circa 1983'sh.

Those DEFINITELY were the days.

Don't forget the steering wheel. In those cars, they were hard, thin plastic. No bulky airbag. Plenty of finger grooves and your hand totally encapsulated the part you were grabbing. Your really felt the control you had over the car with gripping the wheel.

I had a '79 Cutlass Supreme, paid $800 for it in '92. Sadly, it died when I was in college and I couldn't afford to get it fixed. The city towed it.

Now, I stand to inherit '72 Cutlass 442.

Sweet car for a young man back in the day.
 Quoting: Starbird

yes I kill myself lol we picked it up at a car auction at the time we paid 800 for it. When we left the auction we stoped at the gas station and checked the oil it had none pretty much. we put oil in it and it smoked like a mosquito truck. had to have the engine rebuilt but it was a cool car. I sold it after a while and we got a 71 mach1 at the auction for a grand it needed a paint job but it had a 351 cleavland and the 69 had a 351 windsor...

It was golden.
I bought it in 1997 for a thousand dollars as a "station car" off a Marine who had orders to go some where else.
I watched that car with desire for months, I had no idea I would actually get the chance to make it my own.
Its long gone, but for a little while . . .
These cars are thousands and thousands of dollars now.

Man. That car was a sweet, smooth dream, sliding the corners.
Had that smell - mmmm -
It had a freaking fantastic stereo in it.
I used to drive that thing all over that big base for the pure thrill of it - a diminutive white woman in that big ass car pretending I was one of Charlies Angels.
LOL

I used to play Shaft loud on that sweet sound system.
Man, inside that car - everything was perfect, like time standing still. Pure power and bliss.

Ever have something like this in your life?
Recall it, remember it, soak in it.
Go back to something that made this ride of life all worth it and hold it close. Fuck this current clown world.

That is one of my favorite movies.
Seriously. That is an excellent movie.
The Music.
Imagine a life, so simple, you could make a living working in a Car Wash in weather perfect Southern California before it was ruined.

I lived in North Carolina as a kid when this movie was out. The African Americans had Fros like that. Crazy mile high.
Race relations a lot better back in the day too -

Compare the beautiful music they had, to the absolute trash of today. Yes, I am old.
 Quoting: Starbird

I made a living washing cars in Southern California in the early 80's. Detailing, to be more specific. As a young man, it was really fun and I can tell you there were some interesting people working there! We had drunks, druggies, people who lived in motels, college kids passing through, people who took is so seriously like it was a career, old people who worked so slowly I couldn't figure out how they kept their jobs, ect. Jokes and pranks all day long it was like working for a traveling carnival.

65' F-85 checking in. Canary yellow. 8 track tape deck, Deep Purple, Allman Brothers, Moody Blues, foosball and surfing and 10 cent draft beer. Fun stuff.

Kids coming up today have no idea how different it was back then. Pay phone, calculators, beepers, typewriters, smokes 25 cents a pack, 16 oz Pepsi in returnable bottle 10 cents, whole chickens 19 cents a pound.

No chem trails criss-crossing the sky, gays stayed in the closet. Girls were awesome! Beautiful, great personalities, feminine and not a single tattoo to be found.

I still don't get the tattoo thing. Back then only old navy guys had them like an anchor on their arm. Nobody was covered with them except the freaks at the carnival. I personally think they are just about the stupidest way to blow money.

People showing off some weird ass new tattoo they just got like it makes them cool or something then bitch about having no money to pay the rent.

A major portion of the humans on this planet are clearly devolving.

Holy crap! I had one too!! Got it in 2000, paid $250.

Mine was also a 77, white exterior, red interior. I really liked how that style of car had a headliner that couldn’t fall or sag. It had the rally style wheels. 350 Rocket, took the valve covers off, and there was almost a perfect cast impression of the covers in the hard carbon sludge that covered the rockers.

Only had it for about 6 months, I was just a kid. Parents spilt up, I joined the military. It really was in fantastic shape. Nothing beats the front end of that year. Every other year tried to look sporty or streamlined, not the 77. Squared off and sharp.

I miss that car
