Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77326810 I was so mad when some friends of mine came back from Detroit one day in an *mostly* mint T Type, on 22s, with the box end of a 9/16" wrench as a shim for the upper control arm... the piece de resistance??? A fucking 305, a fucking 305 that was so out of time I don't even know how it drove. A 3.8 turbo swapped for a 305, I cried inside. COVID IS NOT FUCKING REAL, WW3 AIN'T GUNNA HAPPEN. I had to throw a new water pump, starter, belts, 2 new front tires, and an alignment at it, but I got another 20,000 miles out of it before part of the frame fell out. I bought it from the original owner, complete with service records going back to day 1, and his family crying as I drove it away. It was a GREAT "station car" and "NYC car." I could drive it to Hell's Kitchen and party at the punk clubs, and no one would ever mess with it. I could pile gold bars on the back seat, and no one would ever notice. Great car! |

I bet money on it, they miss that car now. Another model worth thousands of dollars. Quoting: Starbird The parking lot of my high school was full of cars like that. All the stuff from an earlier life, we took for granted at the time. My grandmother had a Chevy Nova. She was the stereotypical grandmother who only drove to church on Sundays and the grocery store. It was a 1972 and when she could no longer drive or live alone, in 1992, it still had less than 75,000 miles. She never cared for the original upholstery so it had a plastic cover and numerous fabric ones covering the plastic. I drove it once, it was an automatic that could easily squeak the tires. Blue and with no rust. |

Especially those back quarter panels - I finished High School in Illinois and our salty winter roads used to eat those cars down to their bones. Quoting: Starbird Yes, my first car was a '67 Mustang 289. I had to replace the fenders with my own fabricated sheet metal, pop rivets and Tiger Hair, then Bondo and finally paint. Did it all in my back yard under the huge long needle pine trees. It was hard to keep the pine needles and bird feathers out of the paint. Car looked great when I was done, and I fixed or replaced just about everything on that engine. Super fast car that would take any car in town going 0-60. But it was not made to go much faster. Horrific suspension, cave man brakes, imprecise handling and needed an overdrive gear if you wanted to get over 100. Stupid unibody eventually rusted and made the car unfixable, (at least by me.) I Literally broke it in half. :) Last Edited by JustmeTX on 08/01/2021 10:19 AM Justme |

Remember that trick? Quoting: Starbird Yup! I've done it numerous times back in the day, with a sick VW bug....the memories of doing that, it was hilarious First thread I looked at this morning, and I'm glad I did. I have the biggest smile on my face. Thank you! Yeah for extra credit did you ever do it on a pair of those slip on candies high heels! LOL Me and my girlfriends, pushing when there was no hill, run and jump in! LOL Edit to add, Gypsy - somehow an old Beetle Bug suits how I picture you perfectly. My mom had a secession of Beetle Bugs when I was growing up. I like the ones with the big chrome bumpers on them. I can still smell the interiors of these old cars when I close my eyes. What was that smell? Naugahyde? Bhahahah HA! Candies! I had a pair, and I loved them. But no, no Candies on while popping the clutch and jumping in....harhar, I prolly would've broken my foot. I don't do well in heels. I'm a barefoot woman through and through. That VW was old and had a gazillion miles on it....and it did not smell good. It didn't last much longer. It was the old squareback I had that I loved. I lived on the PCH back then, and I always had people asking me if I wanted to sell it....it was a cool surfer's car to have, if into older cars. There's an old bug I occasionally see tooling around town these days. It's in pristine condition, despite it's age. That owner loves that Bug, I'm sure. It always puts a big smile on my face when I see it....lol, it's a light powder blue, and it sticks out in the sea of other cars, like it's all out and proud and just as happy as a lark to show it!.... You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete. -Buckminster Fuller ...I adapt to the unknown, under wandering stars I've grown, by myself, but not alone... Anonymous Coward User ID: 50358574 Canada 08/01/2021 10:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It was golden. Quoting: Starbird I bought it in 1997 for a thousand dollars as a "station car" off a Marine who had orders to go some where else. I watched that car with desire for months, I had no idea I would actually get the chance to make it my own. Its long gone, but for a little while . . . These cars are thousands and thousands of dollars now. Man. That car was a sweet, smooth dream, sliding the corners. Had that smell - mmmm - It had a freaking fantastic stereo in it. I used to drive that thing all over that big base for the pure thrill of it - a diminutive white woman in that big ass car pretending I was one of Charlies Angels. LOL I used to play Shaft loud on that sweet sound system. Man, inside that car - everything was perfect, like time standing still. Pure power and bliss. Ever have something like this in your life? Recall it, remember it, soak in it. Go back to something that made this ride of life all worth it and hold it close. Fuck this current clown world. I remember that car. I had a small model of one. Still have that model today out in the garage. |

User ID: 80193276 United States 08/01/2021 10:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It was around 1985 or so. I was young and wanted to see a bunch of cities to see if I had any great desire to move to one of them. Quoting: Justme C'est Moi Avis had a deal that you could rent a car for a week for $170 with unlimited free mileage. So I rented a 1985 or whatever year it was Cutless Supreme. They were getting smaller but still a really nice comfy car. Well, I drove for 1 week solid, only stopping for food, gas, and the occasional motel room. wasn't really a detailed tour, but I would come to a city, drive the loop around it, stop for lunch or whatever, Read a newspaper. Then on to the next city. When I turned the rental car back in, they checked the mileage and they could not believe how many miles I had put on it. :) Well ~ which city won the tour? No winners. All I remember was being disappointed about Asheville. It was named the best place to live in the US or some nonsense. Just a rural spot like a thousand others. Not that that is a bad thing. My journey might have also included a few bars, diverting the primary purpose a bit. :) Justme |

I just don't give a fuck User ID: 60052792 United States 08/01/2021 03:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had a '66 Olds 442 with the W-30 option. Got rid of the old Carter AFB(?) carb and replaced it with a Holley that had a manual choke. Solved a lot of problems. Like a ^^^^^^^^^^previous poster, I had several cool cars, which were common and cheap at the time, that if I'd kept any one of them, I'd have a nice addition to my finances today. The 78 Cut supreme was a 2 door white w/ tan "landau" roof. Problem was the 305 was a real dog. 1978 was the first year with the stupid emission restrictions. We missed the boat by one year. Bought it in 1990 from an elderly couple who kept it in their garage. Loved that car! It was a boat, but it had power! Wish I still had it. Quoting: LimaIndiaSierra Never sweeter words written or heard. That is the best kind of sweet score right there, the old peoples car, kept in the garage, hardly driven. That is the lottery win of another place and time. If only I hadn’t sold it after high school! I’m hoping it’s still around in someone’s classic car collection. Odds are it got turned into a nyc dumpster. |
