The governor of the state in which the disaster occurs must declare a state of emergency and formally request from the President that FEMA and the federal government respond to the disaster. The only exception to the state's gubernatorial declaration requirement occurs when an emergency or disaster takes place on federal property or to a federal asset—for example, the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, or the Space Shuttle Columbia in the 2003 return-flight disaster. While on-the-ground support of disaster recovery efforts is a major part of FEMA's charter, the agency provides state and local governments with experts in specialized fields and funding for rebuilding efforts and relief funds for infrastructure by directing individuals to access low-interest loans, in conjunction with the Small Business Administration. In addition to this, FEMA provides funds for training of response personnel throughout the United States and its territories as part of the agency's preparedness effort. And in the end The love you take Is equal to the love you make. |

I wouldn’t say that it’s hated anywhere near as much as the IRS; but it could very well be in second place. Quoting: Billsun5 Sadly, the reason for this is the poor track record that FEMA has in doing what is supposed to be their main purpose; helping people and communities recover after a disaster. How can something have failed when it hasn't happened yet? According to many there were Walmart's that closed and became FEMA camps, the claims were accompanied with pictures and tall stories. It was a fail especially when the Walmart in question was converted to a self storage facility and Walmart built a new super Walmart in the city as the other building was too small. Get your story straight...MAJOR FAIL |

To quote Ronald Reagean..."there is no scarier phrase in the English language than "we are from the government and we are here to help". Nobody was locked in Hero. You could leave whenever you wanted but doors locked to keep track of who was coming in and to police thugs as to keep guns out. Facts are that nobody wants to leave home after a disaster. They expect FEMA to give them money to make them whole again. That is not FEMAs purpose. The purpose of FEMA is to provide immediate needs not money shelter and food, clothes if needed but most want a check or cash card period. FEMA does not repair properties or provide funds to do so, that's where insurance comes in but people don't want those pesky monthly premiums so they don't have insurance and expect everyone else to pay their way. |
