Two things that you have to do is to cut the flowering bulb off as soon as it appears and harvest before the bottom leaves start to brown. This ensures that the paper around the bulb is completely formed. If you leave it too long, the paper disintegrates corresponding to the dying leaf above and the bulb becomes fractured. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20371885 Next year is going to be fun. I harvested about 200 bulbs this year, and will replant the best 150. 150 x 8 = 1200 bulbs next year. Then the fun really begins. 1100 x 8 = 8800. This is excellent advice, thank you! Guess I better pull/harvest the rest of them ASAP now.. Aether for the Soul [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

Quoting: Crypto-Tard Had rapini, cherry tomatoes, chard, all from volunteers. Just planted the winter garden, it should start taking shape once the water gets repaired next week. Wow that’s terrible your property burned in a wildfire. Glad you’re ok and best of success with your rebuilding! Aether for the Soul [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

Quoting: tamaracks 34769994 Seems like the Great Reset also involves a halt to canning organic garden foods. That is supposed to make us happy, I guess. Canning lids appear to be “unobtainium” this year. The only way I’ve been able to procure lids this season is by buying another dozen jar/packs, which come with 12 factory lids. So, I’ve got way more jars than lids now :P Aether for the Soul [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

Quoting: tamaracks 34769994 Seems like the Great Reset also involves a halt to canning organic garden foods. That is supposed to make us happy, I guess. The quality of Ball's jars and lids has gone down and should be avoided. I use Kerr canning jars and lids. Easily found online. I think Walmart is the cheapest. They have 8, 16 and 32 oz jars and they sell cases. For lids, try: [link to www.walmart.com (secure)] i don't do credit cards, so shopping online is tough for me.. i checked out the local stores again today and NOPE, no lids for me! Quoting: Terp That’s funny – I just walked around filming my garden yesterday. I’ll be editing the video this weekend and bump your thread when it’s done. My raspberries are looking sickly too. Blackberries are having no problems though. My melons and squash are also thriving. I’m in S. Oregon – zone 8b I think. We have a lot of the same veggies and trees. Hope you do a Fall update video too! Cheers. thanks for that, and glad you enjoyed the video! would totally watch your own garden tour, feel free to post it here when you're ready to share it. yes, planning to do a fall video.. i do an update on my gardens every couple of weeks and it's turning into a series at this point -- here's a link to my Youtube gardening playlist if you want to see more: [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Aether for the Soul [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

Cucumbers doing well, tomatoes but I only have about ten of those plants, harvested a cantelope yesterday ...tasted a bit weird so I gave it to my hens to enjoy...loved it. Plus I have potatoes I grow in tires...only one zunchinni this year so far...my zucchini plants get this rot stuff on them then they die...I have a homesteading YouTube channel called Krissy Kinsey / Nellie's Farm if anyone is interested Quoting: Halfbreedgal 70223977 Hope your green beans come in on time. Cantelope already, nice! I wonder why it tasted strange? Go ahead and embed a video from your youtube channel in a reply under this thread, I don't mind.. I'll even watch it!
