Anyone Use A Home Oil Press?
What do you recommend?

Already have a dehydrator and grain mill but feel I should also add an oil press to my setup.

Planning for self reliance and potential doom scenarios, I struggle with choosing electric or manual. However, even with a power grid collapse on the mainland, we should be OK here on Kauai as we are primarily hydro and solar. Also considering a Jackery portable solar setup.

Please share your experience and expertise! smile_kiss

Go with electric heating plates. Manually heating the plates is a pain.

When the boats stop coming, it will be the silicon paper you run out of that will kill your operation.

Oh and the bags. Get thousands.

90 micron is fine by me.

And a set of wax workers tools.

And silicone work surfaces.

And 91 percent alcohol (70 is useless).

What kind of machine are you using that requires all those things?

I’m more inclined towards a cold press - healthier.

I had a sweet little machine fedexed in while shipping from China was free lol. Dial in the upper and lower plate temp once (195), set the crush time (120), fill the bag, put in parchment, push the button...bzzzzzt.....2 mins later, beep, bzzzt, done. Warm, fresh and sticky. No chemicals, no water, no wait. They called it a tee shirt press, was like $900.

Heat the used bags in coconut oil, strain, make brownies.

Almost 100% efficient.

Now I'd just get the heating plates, a 20 ton jack and some welding for the frame. Same result, maybe $300.

Next cheapest best way is bubble bags, dry ice and a glass table. You can use dry trim and absolutely REAP. For $30 in dry ice you save a full day of messing around with ice cubes and power drills lol. Again, totally toxin free.

Lol but maybe you were asking about a different oil. Like canola, in which case never mind.

When I stopped to seriously consider what I could make oil from that grows where I live, I came up with coconut, avocados, macadamia nuts and kukui nuts. Coconut and avocado oil can be extracted without a press so if I get one, it will be primarily for Mac nuts and kukui nuts.

Going to need to make a decision soon. Orders from Amazon are already running a week to 10 days behind schedule and many items are no longer available.
