They'd put more effort into shoehorning in their totalitarian, Marxist doctrine rather than doing anything resembling work, while constantly talking down to everyone else. They're scum, and poison teams. I'd say hiring anyone younger than 26 is a massive gamble. |

He happens to be a genius when it comes to programming, also. We really need his programming skills, but he is starting to talk about hard coding 'ethics' into the algorithm. Those only reflect his sense of ethics, not the rest of the teams' ethics. E.g. not trading stocks in industries he disagrees with. Quoting: BoatyMcBoatface Any thoughts about dealing with this nonsense? He's been an amazing asset from a programming/design perspective. But this woke crap being built into the software is a no-go for me. How old is he? Pugnisher |

In fact, I strongly question your assessment of this guy being a programming genius. All the woke leftist programmers I've seen have been subpar script monkeys with zero depth to their knowledge - if they even take time from their agenda-pushing to do actual work at all. Maybe you know so little about programming you don't realize just what a pathetic hack this dude really is at his trade? |

The fact that he thinks he has control over what industries the algorithm would participate in gives me the feeling he acts entitled. You may be a startup, but he needs to respect the direction of the CEO. I’ve seen it time and time again from liberals. They tell you how to run your company, they run it into the ground and then they blame it on you. They are psychopaths. Some of them. LEARN TO FIRE FAST. Wait wait wait. Keep buttering him up, make sure EVERYONE signs an NDA and a noncompete! THEN fire his ass. |

Then, get the part of the code where he/it makes it easy to add companies to a list. When he's done, delete the list or put a false company in it. If you don't mind me asking because I am quite intrigued by start ups in general. What are the 'roles' so to speak? Started out pretty loose but once it got serious the stakeholders volunteered for roles and it went from there. From that point, we ran it like a business... Kinda the "fake it until you make it" schtick. Everyone talked a good game, even if we didn't have it, but it was a pleasure to finally see the sign go up on the building. At least, for my guys everyone was given stock so I could always say "listen, you keep working with us... Every dollar you make for the company is going to go straight in your pocket one day" that seemed to be a pretty good motivation and it was right. I sold out at $76/share. This was penny stock when I was issued the restricted stock. I'm just trying to impress upon you that I Know what I'm talking about, that's all. When I got there the company had less than 100 employees and a 8.5x11 in the window with the company logo on it. When I left we had over 760, worldwide. When I started, My department had 7 people total (including management) and when I left I was leading 64. I sat on the corporate steering committee and even my managers didn't know when we got sold. I did, though. I remember my direct manager asking some serious questions directly prior to merger and I had been instructed to keep my trap shut and had to tell him straight up that I cannot tell him anything. Lol. |

Fine. I really don't care what you want to believe. Another anecdote... Manager locks himself out of his office but has a 3 hour ride home. Late night, offices are closed can't get anyone to come unlock the door before he leaves. Well, I was a key holder. I had key for the entire campus. But I did not abuse it. So, I made a couple calls... Facilities says c'mon you have a key, let him in. I said I just needed your authorization and he was pretty much like c'mon this is what we have you the key for... I said okay, as long as it is authorized he says listen you were given the key because we trust your judgement don't call me next time. So I got the key let my manager into his own office. He had no idea. I got some flak after the fact he says so you had the key to my and the other managers office the whole time? Yes. Yes I did. He asked how I said, well, I'm employee 46 aren't I? We all had keys, then. He was speechless. So, this is what it's like to be in a startup. Couple other times I "bended" the rules because it was the right thing for the company. It comes down to trust. You have to trust the people who are working for you, and that's my point. One night the power went out campus wide but when it came back on, services did not come back. I "abused" my key holder status to turn back on all of the systems in the IT cage, which got the company back online. Never heard a peep about it it other than "I heard you entered the IT cage last night when you weren't supposed to" and I replied "we had an emergency and I needed to do that to get the company back up"... The only reprimand I got was "good job." |

I think the takeaway is that you're going to have to trust your employees. It seems the OP cannot trust the employees. This is key in the startup. I wish I could go back.
