I disagree with your premise that "we all [know] American soldiers will not fire on Americans."

Pretty sure we've seen videos of at least one saying they will happily do so. In fact, I'm sure by the time it comes to that almost all that are left in the military will be willing to do so, or at least will shoot in your direction while the others shoot at you just so they don't get found out.

We're fucked. And it's quite depressing.

The only hope is that enough people cause enough of a ruckus that whole states band together against it. I don't see it happening though, not even FL/TX. Look at how weak the response from them has been so far compared to those on the opposite "side" (ie: CA/NY). They may play a controlled opposition role currently, but will ultimately cave or just enact near useless "protections."
