If it came in a nice silver or white I would keep it. I actually asked to have my hair dyed all grey as to look like I’m 53 but that’s too damaging to do to my hair so let’s not say that people that dye their hair ate liars. That’s a bit of a stretch wouldn’t you say? Quoting: Ohio chic I don't color mine because it is naturally dark and grows too fast. It is too expensive to have it done by a professional. I don't care that much about my looks. I wish I had a picture from someone I met on my last job. We were the same age. No one would believe it. She colored her hair and kept herself up. She always looked nice. She looked 15 or 20 years younger than myself. She was also more sucessful than myself. I don't care what OP says. Looks matter. If you feel prettier or younger by coloring your hair. Color it. It gives you more confidence, makes you a happier person. Yes, looks do matter. |

Quoting: SugarSand My hair is very dark brown, and I hope to be able to get away with letting it go naturally. I haven't dyed or highlighted my hair since high school, and I definitely don't want to start. We'll see. My brown did not make a pretty gray. I really hate to see anyone under 30 or 35 color their hair. (Well, I can understand the blond thing.) They are caught in that cycle for the rest of their lives. Growing it out is a pain. At that age, because it is natural, it is beautiful. I was lucky. Mine was brown with natural reddish highlights in the sun but there is that "dirty dishwater blond" that does need some help. Mine was hard to keep color in it as I got older. It was hard to match the natural color. But hey, do what you want, whatever makes you feel good about yourself. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79070529 United States 09/07/2021 10:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've tried dying my hair a couple times and end up upset each time. I would say probably 5 times in not quite forty years. I have very young skin, but people are stupid so when they see the grey they add ten to fifteen years to your age. I was surprised when I first learned this, but it didn't matter to me. It reflected more upon the person who asked if I was that age than my own age. I've also never worn much makeup. Husband is retired military now but when we went to balls I would use a little rouge and mascara, but nothing more. I can't stand the feel of those chemicals on my skin, and they usually cause skin issues to boot. In general, all the things people do to change themselves from natural poison them. Even the soaps most use are poison. I started making soap a couple years ago to get away from that as well. Yes, people who dye their hair and use makeup are lying to themselves and others. But it's a global norm and standard. You're not going to make any friends pointing this out, but you'll know what to expect of those who do these things. Maybe if I found another woman who didn't do these things I could have a true friend instead of the superficial "friend" most are. |

Being or seeking to be more attractive provides a benefit overall because it grants the person so many advantages in life. I feel like if someone makes efforts to change physically to gain the things listed above, they’re just doing what any creature would naturally want to do. It wouldn’t be a natural disposition or a strategically sound idea to want to look less attractive than you could be by “laying it all out there”-camouflage is much more beneficial for a person’s well-being. It is not a natural to want to have more enemies, be more powerless, be more perceived as old or unhealthy, to be less-trusted, to not want special advantages in life. So I guess I’m saying I don’t blame them or hold it against anyone who fights against age related hair changes. They’re just swimming in the same bowl as the rest of us, hoping for an easier ride. Fish swim in schools for a reason, man. Beauty and truth are sisters. Each sing a different harmonic part to the same song. A healthy society strives for beauty. Quoting: Starry Like Correct. People respond to the positive or negative feedback from others, and it is normal and natural to want to be a pleasing sight to others and get that positive feedback. It is predominately age related. It happens to all humans. It's funny when people attempt to stay the natural ravages of time that indicate age. I think we all know the 50 year old without any grey/silver is dying their hair. I don't care. Their choice. Some shades of silver are absolutely beautiful, some shades of grey are not. I have never used anything but shampoo and conditioner on my hair and only comb it, never brush. When I was 15 and 17 I sold my hair to the person who trimmed and cut my hair all my life. They made wigs out of it. It had to be trimmed and thinned every month until it was past my butt, then it was cut. He told me to only use baby shampoo on it while it was growing out to be used for the wigs. AND< to "N E V E R" use a hair dryer on it! Never! OR a brush. I have followed his advice my whole adult life. It is currently below my shoulder blades. And, still close to my teenage hair color. For a 15, then 17 year old $150 per grow out was well worth the time and effort. And, they paid for all the trims monthly! |

Quoting: Turtle Flower My hair is pretty much dirty blonde with streaks of gray and red, natural, guess I'm lucky, but no matter what it looked like I would not use those toxic dyes, think they lead to strokes. And I know a couple hair dressers who did some fabulous dye work who dropped of strokes. One pulled through and is back dying hair, the other didn't survive. When the roots grow out the dye job looks bad when you have grey hair. |

The gray is a beautiful off white - and coming in in streaks. I've always wondered what I'd look like with white hair - and it strangly makes me look younger. I don't know if it matters - but the texture is thick and curly. Shine really matters - so keeping hair shiny helps it look better. I dislike dyed hair on women - I think it looks obvious - plus upkeep must be a nightmare. I spend zero dollars - cuz my husband trims it. We started doing our own hair during ConVid - and have kept up the habit. His hair is pure white - and he too is dark skinned (Italian) / I am mostly Azorian and a little Aboriginal and Ukrainian)). He was/is prematurely grey - it looks beautiful on him also. We both have think curly hair - and our daughter even more so. Sorry 2 blather on w/wall o' text (lol), she got the Aboriginal dna - and has an afro now (not sure if she will be prematurely grey like her dad) - she is almost 27 - and darker skinned than either of us (I think it would look beautiful on her also). There is an Instagram group of grey haired ladies - go check it out if thinking about dying your hair. Last Edited by ruser on 09/07/2021 12:43 PM ruser |

It seems like the gray complements our aging skin, whereas a dark dye washes out aging skin that's lost its pink undertones. My own mother was a freckled redhead who has been highlighting her hair for so long she is now a blonde. Her hair is long and thick and the color is awesome .. she gets low lights and highlights ... she really does have the best hair I've ever seen on a woman her age ... but she spends a FORTUNE on her hair and is in the salon twice for hours a month @ age 67. And then she credits BONE BROTH, which may have a lot to do with the growth and thickness but her color is all down to years of obfuscation due to lowlights and highlights. She still works full time, and her accountant said it seems like she is only working to keep up with the salon visits, lol.
