If I get super-stressed I grow long white hairs overnight that really show up against my almost black hair. It's pretty bonkers tbh.

Hey OP there is nothing wrong with trying to look your best. Who cares if people color their hair. Or highlight it. Or wear some makeup. Or wear bras that hike up the boobs so they don’t hang. Or wear some perfume and some jewelry?

Sheesh. We don’t all have to just let nature take it course.

They used henna back then. And nice clothing was just fine. So was jewelry. Just don’t over do it and there is nothing wrong with it all. Jesus had clothes made of fine linen. They made sure they looked nice.

I color my hair because the color of gray I have is ugly. If it came in a nice silver or white I would keep it. I actually asked to have my hair dyed all grey as to look like I’m 53 but that’s too damaging to do to my hair so let’s not say that people that dye their hair ate liars. That’s a bit of a stretch wouldn’t you say?

There ya go lol

The fun of growing older is to not care what people think. If you want to look like a swamp witch then go for it. If you want to dye it purple that’s cool also. Or just shave it off as some are doing. Just have fun with you life. Happiness is key.

I don't color mine because it is naturally dark and grows too fast. It is too expensive to have it done by a professional. I don't care that much about my looks.

I wish I had a picture from someone I met on my last job. We were the same age. No one would believe it. She colored her hair and kept herself up. She always looked nice. She looked 15 or 20 years younger than myself. She was also more sucessful than myself.

I don't care what OP says. Looks matter. If you feel prettier or younger by coloring your hair. Color it. It gives you more confidence, makes you a happier person.

Yes, looks do matter.

Re: When your hair starts to change.
my hair color changed from platinum blonde to darker and then still darker later.

think this happens to blonde haired people when some evil person curses their hair.

if you have blonde children - never let anyone cut their hair. do it yourself and teach them how to cut their own hair.

CREATOR needs to reverse all those curses / changes which happened to people's hair color. All people should have the idea natural hair.color, which is the color of hair they had as a child.

don't have grey/gray hair, but that too should be changed back to original hair color.

This thing with people's hair color changing is not as Creator/God intended!

I tend to agree with your philosophy. Make-up is also so deceptive. But I have to remind myself to have compassion for the vain and insecure. I stay natural and try to be a positive example to others.. especially to the young girls in my life.

Re: When your hair starts to change.
It has never bothered me but I've had two thick streaks of grey from my temples since I was about twelve. Lots of men find it attractive. When all of the grey hair craze started, women would ask who dyed my hair.

I've tried dying my hair a couple times and end up upset each time. I would say probably 5 times in not quite forty years.

I have very young skin, but people are stupid so when they see the grey they add ten to fifteen years to your age. I was surprised when I first learned this, but it didn't matter to me. It reflected more upon the person who asked if I was that age than my own age.

I've also never worn much makeup. Husband is retired military now but when we went to balls I would use a little rouge and mascara, but nothing more. I can't stand the feel of those chemicals on my skin, and they usually cause skin issues to boot.

In general, all the things people do to change themselves from natural poison them. Even the soaps most use are poison. I started making soap a couple years ago to get away from that as well.

Yes, people who dye their hair and use makeup are lying to themselves and others. But it's a global norm and standard. You're not going to make any friends pointing this out, but you'll know what to expect of those who do these things. Maybe if I found another woman who didn't do these things I could have a true friend instead of the superficial "friend" most are.

A little help here and there is good. I wear lipstick and some gloss. Not super dark. It brightens up my face and makes me feel good. Sometimes I use a concealer around my eyes. Maybe some powder. I don’t use mascara but I have dark lashes. Makeup done well and not caked on looks nice.

Re: When your hair starts to change.
I an a natural ginger who still has her hair color from my youth. Currently, 68+.

I have never used anything but shampoo and conditioner on my hair and only comb it, never brush.

When I was 15 and 17 I sold my hair to the person who trimmed and cut my hair all my life. They made wigs out of it. It had to be trimmed and thinned every month until it was past my butt, then it was cut.

He told me to only use baby shampoo on it while it was growing out to be used for the wigs.

AND< to "N E V E R" use a hair dryer on it! Never! OR a brush.

I have followed his advice my whole adult life. It is currently below my shoulder blades. And, still close to my teenage hair color.

For a 15, then 17 year old $150 per grow out was well worth the time and effort. And, they paid for all the trims monthly!
 Quoting: grannyB

Isn’t baby shampoo pretty harsh? Most shampoos are more acidic which is easier on the hair. Baby shampoo is a 7 so it won’t sting the eyes.

Taking a tablespoon of black strap molasses a day has helped bring back some hair color. Maybe it’s the copper and zinc. Or the magnesium which helps also.

Don't fight it. I think that makes a lot of difference in overall hair health. People always want to straighten it. Whether with heat or chemicals, it takes a toll.

Re: When your hair starts to change.
Staring at 50 & decided to stop coloring during Covid. It’s natural color now with gray streaks throughout. I had to brighten up my lipstick choice to balance the color but my hair is much healthier w less maintenance. The grays were showing by 4 wks w my beautiful balayage, tried just doing highlights but for the time & money spent it was just okay, not gorgeous color like a balayage.

I honestly can’t say I love it yet, but I love what it represents to me: That at middle age I am much more than how young I look. That women should be allowed to grow older gracefully just like men. That it takes more inner confidence & strength of self to buck societal expectations.

Will confess my hairdresser still does lowlights some visits to keep it looking good.

Métis is not a made up word

Etymology

Métis is the French term for "mixed-blood". The word is a cognate of the Spanish word mestizo and the Portuguese word mestiço.

The word derives from the French adjective métis, also spelled metice, referring to a hybrid, or to someone of mixed ancestry

In the 16th century, French colonists used the term métis as a noun to refer to people of mixed European and indigenous American parentage in New France...

Re: When your hair starts to change.
You read that right..... It happens to us all.

Your hair as you age will begin to change.

It isn't just age that factors in though. It's also nutrient intake and health.

Regardless, nutrient intake can't prevent hair color change *as you age; typically from dark color to grey or white.

It is predominately age related. It happens to all humans.

It's funny when people attempt to stay the natural ravages of time that indicate age.

Just dye it and lie about what is happening to you........

It's a vanity thing.

Those who attempt to hide their age show they are willing to lie, not only to themselves, but, also to others.

They seek to hide their true self instead of embrace the change they are going through. They attempt to remain relevant by portraying themselves as still in the class of a juvenile individual.

Natural age related hair change is for the purpose of establishing someone's age and or life experience and expectancy.

You can have your hair turn white overnight by an extremely stressful occurrence.... Your bodies reaction that signifies a biological change to your experiences.

A stress related response.

People who artificially change their hair color are vain.

They put a front on for vain reasons. They wish to maintain any allure they might have had that age tends to negate.

The seek to remain valid for a variety of reasons by their deception. They don't like who they are. They seek to be someone else as viewed in the eyes of others.

They seek validation elsewhere and from others, instead if within.

If this were not so.........they would accept the change rather than attempt to sway it.

Dude I would love that. I'd love to never worry about clothes again.

A while back while studying Jainism I learned that there were two types of Jain monks ... the regular monks and the naked monks.

The idea is to have no attachments, so the naked monks are, in their opinion, done with reincarnation.

The naked monks are all male, though.

They don't allow naked female monks.

Because they don't allow naked females.

They say that for the final reincarnation, you're going to be reincarnated male, because females can't walk around naked.

I have something strange going on. I'm 51 and steadily graying in my beard for years now. Was starting to become white.

Recently I started supplementing fenbendezonale (dog dewormer) and eating natural and glutathione supplements for cancer.

I know have dark hairs coming in all over my beard. This is fantastic.

Re: When your hair starts to change.
We color our hair and put on make up so our husbands don’t say these 2 things. “are you mad at me?” And “what’s wrong, you look tired”

It’s worth the extra few minutes a day for makeup, and half hour a month for hair color.

We like to look nice for our husbands and kids.
And looking in the mirror not seeing a blank face is nice for us also.
It’s not vanity, it is feeling normal after you get older and you are bland looking.
