Thing is, life as we know it is over. Regardless of whether you capitulate, the country is going to crash hard. There just won't be enough people left working to keep anything going.

I'm not sure how quickly supply lines will dry up but I'd guess days rather than weeks. The horrors that are about to unfold are going to be unfathomable. It's still hard to imagine our modern society going full on Mad Max or Walking Dead but that appears to be where this is heading.
