Quoting: beeches Midwives, home births, etc may step up. Babies don't wait! :babies: Don't get me wrong, home births are great, but what happens when you have a baby on it's side and can't get turned to come out correctly? My first son was a difficult birth and my wife was in labor for 16 hours until the Dr. made came in and said that the 'baby was stuck' and said time for a C-section. 100 years ago, I would probably have lost both baby and wife. It took 27.5 hours for our first delivery at home. Our first baby weighed 9 lbs and there was an assymetric placenta. No sequelae for mother or son, but we were really tired by then. All went well and the son grew up to be a Ph.D. The following kids were all born at home and weighed more, though the deliveries were shorter. The first child has to make a passage, and the following kids use that passage. You can almost always tell if a woman has already had a child by the shape of the cervix. |
