The 20 November PEVOLCA reported that the total volume of emitted tephra during the eruption had surpassed 10 million cubic meters.

Those two rivers of lava on the left sure started flowing more heavily since the backside has been exploding

Damage assessment drone needs to do a flyby back there this morn.

That page is showing it as a VEI 2, but it was upgraded to a VEI 3 about a week ago now.

It's always interesting to see how the explosions at nighttime changed the features of the cone.

If you just think of the "emotional load" human beings
are carrying around in 2021--compared to our grand ancestors
--it is remarkable that ANYONE is able to cope.

It's almost as if I'm starting to believe we all have
been very short-sighted in "welcoming in the INFORMATION
AGE" and the internet where we can read about--and in
many cases EMPATHIZE with--people in some of the most
horrific situations a human being can find themselves in
and NOT realizing how much that impacts us psychologically
and physically. For example, I cannot even imagine how
scary and even terrifying it would be for a relatively
poor income mother with young children living on La Palma
Island right now...and NOT having the resources to move
them out of harms way (if she feels this volcano emergency
warrants that for them.) Can you just imagine it?

Were we REALLY "built" to handle this much stress? I am
starting to feel the answer is...really don't think so.

Anyways, I just don't see this whole thing ending in a
"happy everafter scenario" where the mountain just calms
down and everyone goes back to their former life there
on La Palma. We can put that into prayer, of course...
but even a basic knowledge of volcanic and geologic
sciences can tell you...this is not good.

In the old days, you had to worry if the weather held out for your crops, if your family were to get sick, etc. Now, look at all the things the media brings to you to worry about!

You're correct O's cookie. It is already very very different than any volcano I've ever witnessed. Regular explosions and months of perpetual energies greater than man's weapons with no end in sight; the potential of massive land subsidence cannot be ignored.

Also, on a local scale, everyone on and around that Island has had normal life tossed on it's head. I empathize with that having gone through several natural disasters the last few years.

I have had a real passion for volcanic eruptions and
"natural disasters" (in general) after having witnessed
up-close-and-personal the Mount St. Helens erupton that
happened in Washington State May 18th 1980. (Had the
actual St. Helens ERUPTION BLAST been focused in the
other direction...I wouldn't be typing this!) Here is
a quick look at Mt. St. Helens (I do not know if the
LaPalma volcano is similar in any way...just wanted to
give you an idea of what I saw myself with a visual:)

3 Minute duration. Smithsonian covers the
1980 eruption. At the 2 minute mark you can
get an idea of what we would see from our backyard
(but we were much closer than even this shot.)

The sheer magnificent eruption ash cloud--making its
own weather as it slowly billowed up into the Heavens--
is something burned into my memory. It was terrifying
and beautiful at the same time. We continued to live
there for another 3 years saving-up to move a little further
south--I would watch the mountain puff its smoke and
cause minor quakes for months afterwards. You just don't
forget something like that.

Yes, the incredible physical danger from the volcano to
the residents of La Palma aside...the economic and the
obvious psychological effects (major sleep loss with these
constant booms and quakes is guaranteed by anyone there)
...can not be dismissed. It's a SLOW TRAIN WRECK and
I had to stop watching BushCraftBear after his eyes began
to look like a "wild horse" from lack of sleep. Watching
him make those videos (and his STAYING THERE on La Palma
probably because his YouTube channel has monitized a
small income for him?)...is like donating money to the
CLIFF DIVERS in Alcapulco, Mexico who risk their lives
for donations! (I have a story behind THAT one! lol!)
