I have a problem with some of these estimates of The tsunami that would hit the east coast The kinetic energy would dissipate over the distance and spread over the Atlantic basin Plus the opposing currents would act like speed bumps...
Quoting: Apocalypse now Me too. Way overblown. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75866855 Go watch some vids of the Fukushima tsunami and watch how the kinetic energy NEVER dissapated once the waters entered a tidal basin. That energy kept going inland for miles. Once the tidal wave begins at Las Palma it will not be very noticeable, but when it hit the shallow waters of the east coast the momentum of the waves will pick up and begin to concentrate its energy due to that shallowness of the coast. It will be a large amount of water being pushed into inlets and waterways with the kinetic energy not being dissappated quickly, like Fukushima. The waves will hit the east coast like a hammer. Anything in its way will be pummeled.
