I have a problem with some of these estimates of The tsunami that would hit the east coast The kinetic energy would dissipate over the distance and spread over the Atlantic basin Plus the opposing currents would act like speed bumps...
Quoting: Apocalypse now Here is an accountant, with some knowledge of physics. Just a guess, but according to the rules of fluid dynamics a wave in the ocean must have a laminar flow effect, with turbulence only in the region of contact with the ground, and therefore must preserve the momentum.... this would explain why the wave does not dissipate until it collides with something solid. You know those ball pendulums? Newton's pendulum. And do you know that example of dominoes lined up from a normal size to one the size of a building? A tsunami is like this, the energy is already accumulated in the liquid, so it only takes a little push to release it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80856352 Doesn't work that way in the ocean. tsunami wave will spread out and decrease in intensity But locally it will be devastating..
