What worries me, is that for the last 2 days, we have seen TONS of black smoke coming out of the very top of the volcano. Seriously --the column of smoke is massive, and the flaming lava plume is only about 1/3 to 1/4 the width of the column of smoke.

This makes me wonder if part of the cone is blocked, since there is so much black smoke compared to the flaming lava?

Have any volcano experts or geologists explained why there is so much more black smoke coming out of the mouth of the volcano, compared to the lava plume?

Does anyone here on this thread know if it's normal for volcanoes to have this much black smoke, compared to lava? Is this normal? Does it mean there are still lots more explosions to come?

The flaming lava plume is only about 1/3rd the width of the massive column of smoke that has been coming out of the top of the cone for the past few days.

I shudder to think what happens if the volcano becomes unblocked and lets losoe....or if it doesn't get unblocked and explodes.

Well, the volcano just answered my question for me. Lol.

Where there was previously just a huge column of black smoke, there are now HUGE explosions of flames and magma going on. YUGE.

Yikes.

I don't know the answer to any of your questions, but I did see drone footage that showed vents within the big crater....not just one big deep chasm.

Based on what I see now on the live footage, it looks like she might have blown out....but it might just be the vantage point.

Yeah, that is what I was wondering, too, if there were several vents within the main cone. i think there must be...one that is releasing mostly smoke, and one that is releasing mostly flames and magma.
