There was this convo, so figured I'd quote them for you. Not sure if mentioned otherwise.

Question (and I hope I am not repeating) ....

There are SO many under-ocean internet cables around the world. I am sure there is quite a number under the Atlantic between the U.S. and Europe/Africa.

Would a domino effect from this volcano affect those cables?
Effects being: tsunami, under ocean volcanic eruptions, ocean temperatures significantly rising due to magma, under ocean earthquakes, etc.

If La Palma escalates into something extremely more (by way of any of the above-mentioned effects), we in the U.S. may very easily be cut-off before any of those effects gets half-way across the Atlantic because it severs one or more of those internet cables.

I did see it, had to rewind a bit.

I think that is the lower vent they zoomed in on though, not the top main one.

Though that lower one is more of a "main" one now I suppose lol.

Thank you for the humble and honest answer. It gave me chills down my spine and a knot in my stomach reading it. I guess all we can do now is wait and see if it happens. If the outage occures, then it's time to get ready for what's to come. That's the only warning ill need.
 Quoting: SharknatoTomato

I expect that is the correct answer.

The only good news to be found in that scenario is to know that WE know more about what is (probably) going on than most of the rest of the world.

Soooo, if ever (someday SOON) the entire internet goes black, I will assume it is this tsunami, and act accordingly.

Meaning, I will have been acting accordingly up to this point (getting preps ready, having a plan - being at least 30-40 miles inland, etc.).

Me too. We are ready with backup plans A,B & C. My only issue (and why I'm on this thread reading page per page) is that my husband works an hour away right on the shore. I'm so thankful I have found this site (lurking for months before this thread) and everyone has been so kind and informative. This site is the only hope I have at keeping my husband safe. Thank you everyone. They say be the change you wish to see and I feel this site has epitomized that.

Other than it being a "spectator sport" for some of the

WHY THIS THREAD IS SO IMPORTANT. It has the promise of
being life-saving for an early warning.

as well as those already effected.

Great thread, Mister Pillar. Thank you.

I am stepping away from this thread. Y'all want to defend your ideas of what might but probably won't happen that you bury the verifiable information, the common sense and facts with silly theories by self proclaimed internet "experts" and well debunked click baiters like DS. I can look for the truth and discern for myself without wading through pages of silliness here. Props to the OP and the sane participants in the thread, but I am done here. If it turns out that the worst case scenario happens and the island collapses and sends killer tsunami crashing into the east coast of America I will come back and acknowledge that I was wrong.

If the eruption ends up being another like others the island has seen over its long history, carries on for a few weeks or months before going dormant again I doubt the doom mongers here will acknowledge they were wrong, they will just move on to the next in vogue doom theory and forget all about this one.

Meanwhile, an asteroid could just fall on us and cause an extinction level tsunami while we are worrying about unlikely doom.

Stay sane my friends.

Re: Cumbre Vieja volcano post eruption phase! Time to say goodbye for volcano-thank you for all support :)
Woke up from my nap with the full-body vibrations again. They tingled and buzzed for about 5 minutes after I knew that I was awake. Had no intentions of sleeping as long as I did, but my body refused to let me wake up. I finally woke up from some wild ass dreams about the aftermath of something. I walked unharmed across the fire and smoldering lava fields, then the dream phased to a normal day that was interrupted by a sudden panic and struggle to leave- to run. It shifted to an area camp of random survivors, living in tents on the dried out silt and muck of an area that was washed away. Entire topographic surface as far as the eye could see looked like a brown, muddy riverbank that was crunchy for my boots to walk on now instead of sticky. Those folks in the adjacent were cooking something like a squirrel and happy about it. Their clothes were pretty ragged. There were women and children, families. Dream ended with some kind of hostile intrusion within the camp area and a few of the men mustering longarms to return fire. The concussion blasts of muzzle signature started to come from everywhere and projectiles thumped into the dirt, tore through objects, tents, etc

I need to stop with the mid-day siestas

Has anyone in this thread pointed out that La Palma could be depicted in I Pet Goat at the 5:32 mark where there is spirit dancing around the fire?
The pit actually looks like the island itself. And in the scene they dance and create tidal waves.

Can't keep track of nearly 900 pages, sorry if this is a dupe.

Thank you for doing that. I've been thinking about that movie and haven't gone to look at it because I've been so tied up doing other things and watching this thread. I also just watched what you posted and noticed that there seem to be some debris that looked like possibly lava falling as he was dancing around the "fire". Then after he comes out in the boat and the church falls in the distance there is a large explosion. I also wonder if this could represent the volcano.

This tsunami is the end of the internet, and with it, the end of banks, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

All of the internet runs through undersea cables in the Atlantic, and virtually all of them connect to the US impact area.

TPTB will not miss this chance to erase its huge unpayable debts.

It's important to remember that it's not just a tsunami, it's a chain effect, as this wave will hit other rocks/ice with force that will cause other tsunamis.

Do you know what Canary islands use for comms? Is it underwater cables? Satelite? In a disaster it's possible comms have issues. if it's satelite, might be more issues with the ash.

1dunno1

I am currious though, are you there locally? What bother is it if people are aware of this option for comms, used or not? Seems strange to just poo poo it all together lol.
 Quoting: Tangy

I don't know if they have undersea cables, satellite or microwave to another island.

Of course in a disaster it's possible comms have issues - but these days, emergency management has multiple backups.

If all those fail, then sure, amateur radio can be a help.

I've just had a gut full of ARRL and their "when all else fails" stuff, since today - with the tech available today - all else failing is unusual at best.

No, I'm not there locally, and there's no bother to keep the frequencies clear. My HF radio is actually turned off at the moment. If I think there's a chance someone on La Palma might be calling for help, I'll turn it on, listen and if I did hear someone asking, I'll help as I'm able.

But let's not fool ourselves into thinking ham radio operators are going to save the day :)
