Mornin’ guys :)

I’m glad to see that another night has passed without the world ending, civilization collapsing and tens of millions of people getting swept away to a horrifying end.

We have yet to kick down the Gates of Hell and drag the devil out by his untrimmed neckbeard, though. Maybe after coffee?

I was looking at the earthquakes looking for a pattern and noticed that often after there's been an earthquake at La Palma within 2 or 3 minutes later there is an earthquake in Crete or vice versa and always same/similar coordinates in Crete so I wonder if there is a relationship between these areas underground even though Crete is far away.

I also notice the Crete earthquakes are usually same time every morning around 8am ish when the Le Palma volcano dies off and smokes!

Might be a coincidence but its everyday whilst this eruption has been going on.

Wow, that one goes back, and good work btw.

The crete connection goes all the way back to around page 700 I think, but I can't find it at all. I believe it was Ostria1 that brought it up.

There was a geologist in Greece theorized that quakes moved from east to west, or was it west to east. Anyway there definitely does appear to be a connection.

There is not a 1200 page thread in GLP history that is 100% on topic.

I would bet there isn't a 3 page thread that is 100% on topic either.

It's 4:30 am in La Palma.. About the only information we are going to get right now are the EQs.

So I guess the thread should fall to page 3 between those reports?

Many of us that joke around in the slow hours DO provide a lot of volcano content as well.

Why hasn't anyone started a topic only volcano thread, and police it to death so it is exactly how you want it?

This guy is a top quality poster right now for La Palma and earthquakes in general. Back in the Oroville dam days he was marvelous at following the situation. He posted here on the O dam thread at least a couple times. I don't have a twitter account, but it might be nice of somebody to invite him over to post here.

He's worth bookmarking and checking daily. Its a way to get a quick update on busy mornings without going through 20 pages here.

Down his thread on Oct 4th is a newer study looking at Tenerife's sea floor to try and predict what may happen with this one. It is hopeful of a series of multistage smaller flank slides instead of one huge, all at once, slide.

I'm not sure that a series of say 5 or ten foot waves coming 300-500 miles an hour would do anything to the barrier islands but total decimation. But it beats 75 to 100 foot waves hitting cities. Maybe the power plants, sewage plants, and water plants would survive the multi stage collapse scenario.

Pray for mercy, hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Good morning!
Some updates from twitter.

The Cumbre Vieja Eruption in La Palma, Spain captured from the east by SkySat on October 4, 2021.

Fun fact: Even if lava is not quite hot enough to glow brightly in visible light, it will still glow in longer & lower energy wavelengths such as near infrared (seen on the right)." USE_REAL_LINKwzFDrVjC4G

All the red on the right is vegetation. The forked lava stream is showing up in IR down near the black plume of smoke.

Hello,

Me logged in earlyish today. I smiled when I saw the eating posts. As I went back tgrough the pages, I noted complaints again. For me it was a relief. Shows the volcano has not done anything outrageous over night.

Fog here on The Levels, or maybe volcano smoke (I joke there) but does anyone have a link for where the plume is going to? I have looked previously and not been successful.

They aren’t traditional earthquakes…. It’s magma, gaseous mess, plus caverns getting filled and then drained….

It’s not fault pressures. So those predictions aren’t the same.

But from a MagMah prediction…. Fine, I will throw my hat in…next one will be Close to the 33km 4.1, but maybe 5km closer to surface.

There is going to be a vent on that side… when, not sure, but it’s coming.
