It’s probably just a silly game in her head. Soon you will be best buds. Just ignore her and give the other dogs all the attention and treats. It worked like a charm with my husbands chow. She couldn’t take getting ignored. I kept ignoring her until she crawled in my lap for attention. We were best buds for her last 10 yrs. try it. It might work! :) Making sammiches great again! |

If it was not you, you should give the dog to a different good home (maybe to a single woman), and get a different puppy. But dogs mostly operate on smell, so it probably wouldn't matter if you looked like a past owner that mistreated her. Keep hand feeding her, and give her good stuff like roast chicken and "Busy Bones", OMG, my dogs love those. They have a really strong, smoky meat flavor. If she was abused in the past it may take some time. Maybe she is afraid of males. Good luck! Unjabbed and Off Grid |

User ID: 75944363 United States 09/13/2021 12:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Dogs go 90% by smell. She doesn't like the smell of you. Not trying to be rude, but putting a dog thing into human perspective for you. You said you had been butchering, and that is a good thing with experienced dogs who know what treats that will bring. Nonetheless, it is still the smell of death... blood, guts, sometimes gunpowder. Treat her special. Take her alone in the rig to town, or some other one-on-one activity with no other dogs along. If she has a favorite person, take that person with, perhaps, to vouch for your goodness. Do you like her? If not, she will know, again from your smell, and react accordingly. Good luck! User ID: 79275878 United States 09/14/2021 03:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A dogs way of being threatening is to stare at the one they want to scare. Dogs show trust and that they don't fear something by showing their neck and belly to the other dog/person. "presenting vulnerable spots" Try going outside with a toy, or a few. SIT on a low step. Don't look directly at the puppy, but call their name. Throw a toy down a few feet from you, but AWAY from the dog. Do not throw at the dog, or it's direction. Your lower position and not staring the puppy down will make you appear as not a threat. If you are big and tall, that could be making the puppy nervous. You can also walk away from the puppy, calling it's name. See if it will follow you. Chasing a scared puppy is frightening. Set up two chairs in a triangle in your yard. Have them far apart, 20 feet or so. Play for a bit from the step, then get up and go to the chair/step furthest from the puppy's location, and play again for a few minutes. Teach the puppy you are not a threat. P.S. Take some small treats with you and leave one by each location you leave. See if the puppy follows you. |

If you act aloof you will be in a position of Alpha and the dog will respect..not fear you. If she sees you trying to befriend her and sees that it is upsetting you or worrying you she will see you as weak. Ignore her completely. Especially don't try to speak sweetly to her when she is cowering away from you...she will see it as a reinforcement of the behavior. If you ignore her she will see you as the boss...and trust you as such. |

User ID: 79065899 United States 09/14/2021 03:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I presume that you adopted the dog. It’s possible that you look like someone who may have traumatized her. Give it time. Quoting: RoyBatty That's what I'm thinking. When we lived out on the South Plains, we had tons of different dogs dumped off. Some were very protective of me and my daughter, but my husband and the boys, they would act alot like your pup. The only difference I noticed is our dogs would have their tail straight up. Yours has her tail tucked. She trusts you enough to eat from your hand, so I think she'll come around. Some dogs are just barkers. Someone suggested giving her scratches. That's a good idea. If you can give her a soft pet or scratch while you're feeding her, it might work. Just stop if she gets defensive. Give her some time. She'll come around. I've watched your other videos. You're good with critters. She'll figure it out. Watch her tail and you'll have a clue when she's over it all! I agree with these 2. May I also suggest lying down for a while and see if she comes around to you. Then cuddle or pet her for a while. I would try that every night til she comes around. You could also feed her then too. Small treats, whatever. Damn, but that is the sweetest thing to shave your hair, mustache, and beard to see if the pup will bond. What the poster said about lying down...I forgot...I had a boyfriend a long time ago that did landscaping and said any time a dog would approach him (off-leash, no owner in sight) he'd lay down, the dog would sniff him and eventually the dog would go on its way. He said he was never bit. In fact, he did this with the dog I had at the time the first time he came in my house...no snacks, no other bribe...and he and my dog were bff after that. Your dog doesn't seem aggressive, more fearful. I think you can overcome this. Good luck to you and the lucky doggo! Take the red pill now...later it will come as a suppository. |

If so, she sees you as a killer and that's why she's afraid of you, she doesn't understand that the yummy scraps you fed her came from the body of the resident turkey, if indeed that is the case that it was a home grown turkey... anyway, just throwing that out there as a possible reason.... good luck ! Yes, ranchers slaughtering cows a mile away upsets my horse. Also try not to yell at the wife and kids, this upsets animals tremendously, men have big booming voices "It's a friendly friendly world" (Andy Kaufman) Calm seas do not a sailor make, Nor easy horses, a horseman. Have them in your hand, he’ll smell them, but just go for a meander in the yard. Then go back into the house. Later, come out, again with treats in your hand but go to a different place in the yard.
