How are so many places understaffed when unemployment and eviction moratoriums are gone? I don’t believe that many people are suddenly hiding now because of CoVid and not working just waiting to get evicted. Even fast food is paying $15 an hour in states where it’s not the mandatory minimum wage - and heroic grocery store workers stayed on the job at the height of the fear pandemic. Why would all those people not be working now? What are all these mysterious ‘better jobs’ they left for? Are the supply shortages really because so many people are MIA?  A lot of people I know just said 'fuck it' and aren't working now. Also, Del Taco is starting out people at $19 an hour in SoCal here. Help wanted signs everywhere. The people aren't dead, they just don't want to work. I know I quit my job and I know lots of people who just stopped working. It will take awhile before immigrants get the urge to come back for a majority of those jobs. A lot of the fast food pizza and coffee shops surviving now are staffed with Gen Z. My kid will be 14 next year and is eager to work at Mcdonalds. It is weird but that is how I felt in the 80s, that I actually wanted a job and POS car.
