I suspect the numbers of deaths caused by the opioid crisis has been severely underreported. Nearly 50 classmates from my High School graduating class passed away from drug overdoses over the past 6 years.

Businesses cannot find staff because the pool of young adult workers that usually became waiters/worked in retail is significantly smaller than it was in the past. The shortage of workers would have happened pandemic or not.
