What if it had been a down syndrome kid in the neighborhood just acting socially awkward?

You should not shoot someone unless they are coming into your house or have made their intentions clear outside your house.

I don't agree with cold murdering a dude who wanted to see some T&A.

Our kids are neutered and so fucked up that they are choosing, at age 12, to be a fucking trans abomination.

I'm behind any young guy with testosterone that wants to see a "naked lady". As long as he doesn't rape, that would be over the line.

But damn, why do we want to fucking blow the brains out of any guy with testosterone? Don't we sort of need them?

She murdered him for peeping in her window?

Does the punishment fit the crime?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80146937

Is it ok if someone just peeps at your mom, wife, daughter, Etc.?
No, and what if he decides it’s a touching thing…or worse….

I don’t agree with shooting through the wall….mainly because if you have neighbors and you don’t worry about beyond your target , you’ll accidentally kill your neighbors, their dog or someone else that’s an unintended target.

If she did it right, she would have called police….and only shooting if there was a real threat to her life, or he started to enter the home. Then stood her ground in the house with her firearm.
 Quoting: Patriot_In_Waiting

IF cops didn't have a bad track record of shooting the homeowner who makes the call, I'd tend to agree with you, but even in the best case scenario, their response time is measured in minutes, when you could die in seconds.

Maybe he was making a rapey-face at her when she caught him peeping? Or are you going to argue that he was just doing research for his school report?

Nobody here knows the facts and details of this case.

If she had a reasonable fear of imminent harm then the shooting was most likely justified. If not... then no.

However, in a liberal city like Houston she better have evidence or a really good story that she told only to her lawyer.

If she talked to the police other than "I feared for my life" she's probably in for a bad time.

If she doesn't have money for lawyers she's probably also going to have a bad time with this.

What's wrong with closing your curtains after dark?
Needless death.
I'm afraid she did it wrong and it's probably going to prison unless she gets a high dollar lawyer.

I'm a woman who's husband works a night shift, I'm also a GOP.

I keep a 9mm all the time, I'm also a Texan.

Here we have castle laws, we can shoot if your messing with our house or even our vehicles as long as they are on our own property.

I keep a rough brick by my car in the yard so if I kill someone, I can put it in their hand and say they started to rush me.

Ok, yeah, just shoot the fuck out of anybody near your windows.

You know what, I don't even care anymore. I hope that we cull at least 2/3rds of the planet with this graphene oxide mRNA shit.

I NEVER thought I would kinda sorta agree with Uncle Gintel.
But here I am.

I think this situation calls for some serious "Home Alone"
type retaliation,
But shooting through a wall at an unknown person outside?

No. Not for me. I'd go check the dude outside, armed, and
dispatch if necessary.

I know a chick probably would not be comfortable with that,
and rightly so.

But blast away?

I think not. Call a man friend to help or the cops.

Be ready. If he breaks, enters, etc, BLAST AWAY.

Not blindly through a wall.

It sounds like rather than attacking each other, maybe both sides have some valid points and we need to wait for more info.

It was almost irresponsible to publish this story without more facts, but the news probably did it on purpose.

Just don't be so quick to cheer taking life. I also think women have the right to feel safe.

This is the great responsibility we all take when owning a firearm as it can take life so quickly.

I hope the guys actually ends up being weird bc I don't want to see some old lady go to jail either.

She'll be convicted of first degree manslaughter with a side order of assault with the intent to inflict great bodily harm. It'll be 15 years before the nutter gets to see her gun again
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72444858

There will be no trial, she was defending herself from a trespasser, who was involved in voyeurism, and sizing up a possible opportunity to rape the victim.

It's clear that criminal minds run in families as you have demonstrated.

You take their picture, call the cops, set up cameras, get a court order of protection if you know the identity of the person, sit with your rifle in case there's a breakin so you can shoot then.

I don't think you can just shoot because someone's looking in your window.

You do realize that's how many women and girls DIE ?

They take all the suggested recommended "legal" actions and still end up dead! Legal papers, pictures, ect do NOT stop criminals from harming people, wake up snowflake.
Usually the law enfarcement clowns show up 15 or 20 minutes after the criminal has either murdered or severely injured the victim.

Right wing fantasizing. She will be lucky if she is not charged.

Nobody was trying to force entry so she can't show it was justification for use of deadly force.

This would not even hold up under castle law.

She should have called to police. If he was trying to gain entry, then it is a use of deadly force.

And peering into a bedroom window at 11P? No.
 Quoting: TXP

Very likely he did a wrong thing. Very likely he's a creep. The penalty for those things isn't death. What if she had

(1) taken his picture
(2) set up security around her house
(3) gotten a court order of protection and/or published his photo to embarrass him with everyone.
(4) reported it to the cops so HE would be arrested for something, rather than her getting arrested.
 Quoting: oniongrass

You are living in a damn fantasy world, some comfy little cocoon you've created for yourself so you don't have to face reality. Apparently, you believe criminals care about laws, and I bet you also believe all people who appear sane are sane and, further, that everyone besides "psychopaths" have the full traits of humanity.

Do you seriously believe a camera, waiting for law enforcement, a damn piece of paper will protect you from a person with malicious intent? I suppose we should all try to reason with these individuals, too, yes?

Court order...publish it...embarrass him? You are kidding right? What exactly do you believe drives this type of criminal behavior? Do you think people with miswired brains can be shamed or punished into being moral or following the law? The actions you suggest will amplify a stalker's behavior (also anyone who falls in the clinical Cluster B disorders).

You have no idea what it feels like to be human prey by (untreated mentally ill but functional and socially acceptable) predators. You also do not understand the capabilities of such people or the prevalence of these individuals across all demographics, because if you did understand these experiences and facts, I doubt you would be making such absurd suggestions.

Protect yourself first.

A bit of advice: do not ever, ever underestimate the capabilities of a person without empathy or the full traits of humanity. Ever.

Personally, I would have held him at gunpoint until LE arrived and shot him if he dared move one muscle, but if she feared for her life, then she was fully acting within her rights on her private property against a trespasser peering through her windows at 11P.

.
 Quoting: TXP

I know it was a dangerous situation. That's why I suggested sitting inside with her rifle, ready to shoot in case of an attempted break-in. Then it would be justified.

But you can't just shoot someone because you're scared and he or she might be a bad person. At least I think not. It's not my legal opinion that matters, it's more of a prediction on how this will go.

I am not in any fantasy world. Some situations are dangerous. You have to sit in them and minimize your risks or take calculated risks, but sometimes there's no way or no legal way to eliminate all the risks because they cause far too much risk to others.

Like in case this was a guy who wanted to see some T&A. That's a creep but not a threat to life.

Do I care that an idiot could have died by a gunshot fired by my

murder. plain and simple. i dont know that it should be but by law that is murder. he didnt break a window, he didnt verbally threaten her, he never even attempted to enter her home. i hate the fucking pigs but she should have called them and WAITED with her rifle at the ready in case he did start breaking in. motherfuckers need to learn what constitutes self defense before swinging rifles around like that. this woman is either too old and feeble to responsibly use a weapon, totally mal-educated on guns in general, or a fucking psychopath who actually just wanted to kill someone. likely the 2nd one.

Here we have castle laws, we can shoot if your messing with our house or even our vehicles as long as they are on our own property.

I keep a rough brick by my car in the yard so if I kill someone, I can put it in their hand and say they started to rush me.

muslims say the same thing to their women. what's wrong with covering yourself from head to toe? what's wrong with always having a male chaperone. if you tempt men, it's your fault whore.

Re: Texas woman uses rifle to shoot, kill alleged 'Peeping Tom' caught peering into bedroom window

If you are in TX and on your property and your safety or person is being threatened, yes, you can, and she did. She will have to live with that decision, but if she felt her life was in danger, that she was in danger, she was within her rights to defend her person. But for HIS actions, he would still be alive.

How do you know he was the person you describe? What do you believe she was experiencing in her home on her property at 11P when a trespassing man peers through her bedroom window? Give that a little thought.

Finally, one does not "sit in" a dangerous or life threatening situation and contemplate risks as if you are making an employment decision or purchasing a new home. Your physiology kicks in and you must make immediate decisions to protect yourself and save your life.

It's clear you've never had these experiences, and I hope you never do, but I recommend preparing now both psychologically/mentally and tactically so you'll be in a better position to respond should you be faced with a survival decision.

Cheers!
