Job shortage MY ASS - try getting a mid to senior level position | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 80692706 United States 09/14/2021 09:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Usually, what happens is they post the job, call the agencies, choose the longest resumes, and then do the interviews. They'll then pick a guy, get the guy in, find out that they know absolutely nothing but just have a big head with over-confidence, and then shuffle the guy around until the dude realizes their jig is up and then they'll go try the same scam at some other employer. The other option is during the interview process to ask the candidate infinite questions until they give up and hang up. |

I’ve gotten 3 unsolicited job offers in the last month or so coming from people in my professional network. One had such a hardon they didn’t even veil it as an interview. Straight up offered me a CTO position within 2 minutes of getting on the phone. |

Larger companies often hire their mid-level from within and sometimes the upper level as well. If they don't have anybody, they will use a headhunter and float them some possible names. If you want such a position, you generally have to already be working because then you are in demand. If you aren't working, they figure something is wrong with you. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79409880 United States 09/14/2021 10:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The worker shortage of exactly that. A shortage of workers, not managers. There is no manager shortage. Quoting: Factual Error Companies already have a manager for each and every worker. They hire managers just to get their buddies in by making up positions which need to be "managed". Meanwhile, they are never able to afford to bring in workers who actually DO REAL WORK. Every time a regular worker quits, they solve the problem by passing more work on to others who remain, and then that requires them to hire another manager. Companies are a total joke nowadays. So this means there is a HUGE manager bubble, and workers dont want to go back to work to do the work of ten people at slave wages. Its easier to just become homeless and live out in the woods then it is to be an employee at most companies today. No wonder employers are having trouble finding workers, workers would rather hang themselves then go back to that shit! I've worked in an office type job for about 12 years now. The past 18 months have been great for me since we've been able to WFH. That being said, a lot of people have quit..especially new hires. Not a single department is able to keep a full staff for long without someone leaving. And don't even get me started on micromanagers. They are beyond USELESS. |

Do you know how many interviews Ive been to where they give a mock scenario on how "would you fix this"? After the first couple I realized they had no intent. Now I flat out tell them they need to pay for my consult time. The looks they give, yea, they know what they are doing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80872825 Really have the feeling its coming down to they post BS openings for legal reasons, yet already know WHO they want.... Or perhaps over qualified and don't want to pay, but let ME make that decision!!! Next time wear a rainbow pin, gay it up a little and act opposite of how you normally do. A bit incompetent, but funny and a team player yes-man. Embrace the cognitive dissonance. |

Quoting: 3O Godlike I was told that these companies pay premiums for posting X amount of jobs per month via the online job network they are using. If they dont post something they lose the money and other things stipulated by the contracts. So yea, I think most postings are BS... This is true. I have a close acquaintance that does this from home, and she said she gets paid $30 an hour. Sad. |

Thanks, is there some national database that candidates are unaware of that professional talent acquisition pulls from? Im not talking about LinkedIn or Indeed, etc. but some clearing house that houses candidates? Or does it really come down to applying for every single job, including national positions remote? Thanks! |

Yep, and I refuse to start over at this juncture of my life... in the process of starting my own business. Well good for you! Excellent idea! What type of business are you thinking of starting? I have been thinking about doing this myself. My sig other started a small cosmetic business, all natural, a while back as a hobby, so Ive been expanding and working on professional packaging, etc. People like holistic and natural products, so I think it will do well. At a minimum we get to right off shit tons of expenses... lol That is a perfect way forward. Unless they cut you off from UPS/FedEx/USPS/DHL for not getting jabbered. Can't even believe we are even entertaining this but this appears to be a possibility now. That and utilities, suppliers, driver's licenses, banks, etc. |

I rejected one offer back in May, or June and now I got another one and accepted it. I can tell you from my experience that yeah in most cases it seems at the final interview that a decision has already been made. I think I've had a total of at least 3 final stage interviews and in two cases I knew they already wanted to hire me and in one case I had the feeling they only needed confirmation they didn't want me. I guess they always have to have at least a few candidates in the final stage, even if the decision has been made. |

Even when my husband found a job, it was through a friend/former boss, so it really is all "who you know." Same for my husband. He tried hard core for over 3 years but could hardly even get a call for an interview (Principal Engineer with over 25 yrs experience). After a long time, like OP, we noticed the same jobs posted for months on end...never filled...or sometimes just reposted every 6 weeks for over a year. Thats when we felt like many postings were not legit. We also found out that most companies use resume screening software that if your resume doesn't match like 80% of their keywords, its never seen. All of his networking connections don't help much because we were forced to go to another state (due to the financial hit) far from where they all are and there are no jobs in his wheelhouse within less than 3-4 hours from us. Also agree with the "over 50" comment. Seems they want "fresh out of college/will work for much less". Poor guy has never not had a job so it is hard for him, but after years of trying we have given up. Plus now with jab mandates...well he'd have to leave anyway. |

Shit, with food exploding in price, people will always need cheap produce. Cut the middle man out and do local, eliminating most transportation costs or drop ship directly. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80872825 I have been thinking about that also. I do not have to try, Norway will stop me before I even begin, but I see this will become a trend. Sale of food directly, not via the huge apparatus now with long chains. It will start with local shops that sell real food produced locally, instead of the globalistic store chains with their «cheap» trash. It will become huge apparatus too, but concerned with logistics for selling with much shorter chain from production to end user. Like Whatevermart that has de-centralized logistics. And without the huge centers, people have to travel to. Also allows for de-centralized production. and distribution hubs It will break the existing system, so there will be installed some resistance. But much of the system will likely soon break down anyway. Good luck! ⌦ Menstruators are going to menstruate. Period. ⌫ |
