In order to maintain outside inputs within a system, limits are set. In audio recording, we set a level where on the high side, we reduce the gain to a max level and on the other end, we boost the input to a minimum level.

That is old school analog recording with chips and clips.

If...if we live in a simulation, then it is silly to believe there are no chips and clips built in. Outer limits to prevent the end-around, the side-step, the breaking of the machine.
