2. Seeds are living things. Melon seeds can be planted 8 years after harvest and many grow. Most seeds only last a year or two even if refrigerated. I know this because I tried and found out the hard way.

Yes, have some food and seeds....but the best is to have skills and knowledge on top of well thought out preps.

the real economy died in August of 1971 when Nixon took us off the Gold standard, promised the US dollar would always retain it's current value, it has steadily declined since, he also brought in Price and wage controls around the same time, the free market has never been the same since!

make sure they are Heirloom seeds too, know how to save, dry and store them from crop to next crop, learn Root vegetables, carrots, Potatoes, turnips etc to keep in winter storage, herbs also, eventually you will run out of spices! many over look the need to over stock salt and not only for seasoning but for preserving, learn how to grow early and late crops of Cabbage, lettuce, onions, peas etc., above all know what will do well in your climate especially in the really cold or extreme heat zones, some colder zones have a very short growing season and don't think you will go out and kill fresh game forever, they will depending where you are at be wiped out quick so learn how to smoke, Can or dry meat! 4 to 7 years is a long time to stock for so good luck!!
