Cedars. Lilac bushes, purple and magenta. And we have many flowers and vegetables and raspberries, want less raspberries and more blueberries. My goal is to have our 1/3 acre turned into a restaurant as its beside fruit stands and a business. And a farm and a ranch down the road. Sheep and beehives in the future. Want to grow annual cottons, and lots of wool for my spinning business. And the grounds here to be park like, with dahlia's and my current foxgloves and have wedding arches so my young son can take photo's. House prices are lower in shitty areas. Gardens are less well cared for in shitty areas, and the people who live there don't plant expensive exotic trees. |

Quoting: The Lazy Monk House prices are lower in shitty areas. Gardens are less well cared for in shitty areas, and the people who live there don't plant expensive exotic trees. Sometimes small towns, have cheaper prices, but gorgeous gardens. They're like the wild west and freedom seekers choose those spots irregardless of whether their home prices rise like in the cities. True, but all other things equal, more trees usually means a more expensive area where more affluent people live. I have lived among the poor, and one thing I can attest to personally, is that they don't spend money on beautifying their environment. It's not that they couldn't afford it, they just don't have that mentality. They don't create, they watch TV. Any extra money they have is spent on booze and cigarettes or just fritted away somehow, not spent on hobbies or gardening. Most poor people are poor for a reason. They have no vision and no drive to improve themselves or their surroundings. Their barren gardens are a result of their lack of ambition and vision. In my experience, only 5 % of people living in a poor areas will tend to their gardens with any level of enthusiasm. And these 5 % are highly likely to move away to a better area in a few years. |

I've seen it happen where one person gets serious about gardening, and their neighbors see it and follow suit. A good philanthropy project would be to identify gardeners in strategic blocks, and support them in their hobby, by giving them plants and materials, and maybe some labor too. Find people on corner lots with good exposure who are already gardening, and amplify that with resources. A person who is actively gardening in a mature garden always has plants to divide and give away. One mature garden for propagation could provide free plants to an entire city block. |

I do admire your faith in humanity, but I must ask you: Have you ever met poor people? I mean, have you ever spent time among them until you understand how they tick? Poor people aren't evil. They aren't bad people, most are kind and friendly. They aren't necessarily lazy either. But they are poor as a reflection of an inner flaw, a state of mind of perceived victimhood and lack of power. And that state of mind keeps them from doing constructive things, even when it would be within their power to do them. You can try to inspire them, but they won't follow suit. Something holds them back. Their own minds. In reality, you can't change the ghetto, you can just move away from it and save yourself. Sad but that's how it is. |

The Japanese have a saying that your life begins when you have a garden. Your garden sounds like it is thriving. How about some strawberries and garlic? Both are simple to grow. Strawberries take a couple years to spread and get established but then they require almost no maintenance. Garlic has an 8 fold increase every year. I've been taking down most of my raspberries as they are too time consuming to pick. |

Nothing super woah but a bonus to moving rooms. Before I lived under a kitchen ceiling ( with no insulation ) just to have my own floor level apartment thing but it were just nuts. With the window you can just lay naturally on back and see out window. No neck aches. Plus a radiator right next to bed. Heres to hoping that dosent cause dampness to beds etc. |
