In the event the power goes out and you have no alternate heat source, or an insufficient one, the drain traps and toilet bowl, which always have water in them, could freeze and be severely damaged or destroyed as the water expands. Windshield washer fluid poured into the traps and toilet bowl will lower the freezing point of the water, saving your plumbing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 53679540 Of course, a I’m just one of those horrible, worthless AC’s that should be banned, so you probably should dismiss whatever I have to say on general principle. I learn a lot of cool things from AC posts. I get sad then they get blanket banned. You get confused with the shills but I understand/respect your need for privacy. I used to be an AC but eventually realized I wanted to be part of the family. Thank you. I’ve been thrown out with the bath water more than a few times, but I have my reasons for not joining. That sounds interesting. Do tell why if you are able to. Edit for typo That would defeat the purpose, wouldn’t it? |

My car likes the premium stuff. I wonder if this is widespread... If only regular is available in your area due to shortage, WalMart and most auto parts stores carry bottles of octane booster, that you add to your gas tank after a fill-up; usually one bottle per tank. It’s not too expensive, and depending upon the brand can raise octane up to 3 points, which should be sufficient for a high-performance engine. |

Does your auto parts store have any? Good to know... the lady there also suggested a DIY ammonia and water mixture for the future. Yes. The recipe for Windex is: - Ammonia - Alcohol - Water - Blue Food Coloring Realistically, you can go to the dollar store and buy a half gallon of pure ammonia, dump it in your washer tank, then fill the rest with water from the hose. Water and vinegar works, too... but the vinegar may eat the seals on some cars over time. You can use plain water... works fine if the blades are good. The only problem is it will freeze in the winter... so you can add a quart of antifreeze with it... or alcohol. |

[link to www.amazon.com (secure)] 15 cents a gallon for the tablets, plus whatever 20 oz or so of isopropyl costs these days. ALso, check outside of the gas stations. Often you will see antifreeze stacked up outside. Last Edited by JustmeTX on 09/24/2021 10:23 PM Justme |

I found a great cast iron dutch oven sitting in a garage and covered with about 60+ years of rust and old food gunk. Soaking in a vinegar bath didn't do the trick, so I want to try the oven cleaner method. Any ideas on cleaning crusted, rusted cast iron? . . "Stop the lockdown. Stop the masks. They keep the minimum amount available in stock because it is more profitable to sell other things per the amount of space it takes up. it is like a loss leader for them. |
