It must be true since a Christian said so.

Luke 10:19

So He told them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
Behold, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.

Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”…

Psalm 91:13
You will tread on the lion and cobra; you will trample the young lion and serpent.

Mark 16:18
they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.

But with the same breath you'll quote Matt 5:43-48 when a "Christian" takes action.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

I appreciate what you are saying and the spiritual demons that control people are the target of the battle, not the people themselves. We fight not against flesh and blood, but against demons, principalities etc.

People often to not understand what Jesus meant by serpents and scorpions. How are these two related. The bible has used various animals to describe the basic nature of certain demons: Frogs, Foxes, Serpents, Scorpions, etc.

Why serpents and scorpions?
A serpent has its venom poison its head. This kind of demon confuses people, makes them foggy and forgetful of God's ways and promises:

By contrast, the scorpion has its venom poison in its tail.
As in turn tail and run. This type demon induces fear, anxiety and guilt.

So when Jesus said those words, he meant that Jesus has you covered from head to tail in the fight against demons and other powers of wickedness, not the people themselves.
