I got a few five gallon food grade buckets from lowes and then filled them with rice, beans/lentils/peas and pasta. It didn't cost that much and you can buy a some every time you shop. Even starting late, it shouldn't take long to build up at least a month or two worth of food.
Quoting: themessengernevermatters I been getting those for free from grocery stores. Bakery department gets them with frosting in them. They throw them out when they’re empty. I have two stores who save them for me. I have pet food in them, and rice/pasta, etc. some of them are square rather than circular so store more and more efficiently.
