Local food banks and food pantries.
Most of them here you just show up on the day and they load your car. No ID necessary.

You can go to another in a nearby town if needed, so i've heard.

Over 50 in your household gets 2 boxes per month
Over 60 gets 2 different boxes.
Meat, canned goods, cheese, pasta, rice, powdered milk, etc.

I would get rice, beans, canned tomatoes, and some herbs/spices along with a book on foraging edibles plants.
Radishes and spinach grow super fast. Chia seeds sprout fast.

Depending on your weather, think about what you could grow. If you have a window seal, you can plant basil. If you have a grow light or aerogarden you could do tomatoes inside. 4th of July puts out lots of little tomatoes faster than anything.

If you were buying green onions, don't throw any away but plant them. Plant your celery bottoms too after you soak them when they get roots. Start drying any extra veggies you have leftover from meals. If you have bones, put up stock.

If you can't buy and bring in then focus on wasting little and putting up extra.

It's kind of fun to do the impossible.

I got a few five gallon food grade buckets from lowes and then filled them with rice, beans/lentils/peas and pasta. It didn't cost that much and you can buy a some every time you shop. Even starting late, it shouldn't take long to build up at least a month or two worth of food.

Five gallon food grade buckets, used, can be gotten from a Walmart bakery department for $1. Comes with lid. Wash thoroughly and reuse. Costco gives away 3 and 5 gallon used food grade buckets for free.

Arrive mid morning before they are gone. I have been doing this for years.

but you have to have food to put in them and those unprepared.. there is little time and you will "enjoy" food bank lines

You gotta start somewhere. Food grade buckets on the cheap are necessary. Then fill as you can afford. The buckets keep the mice/rats away.
They never thought she would lose. Now they all lose.

Seed Harvesting Tips for Survival – Part 1, by R.B.

As I’m writing this, we are in the full swing of seed gathering here in zone 6 of the northern South. The purpose of this article is to help people in any section of the country learn some easy and inexpensive ways to gather and save seed for now and for harder times to come. Consider the following. Will seed always be available for each type of vegetable, fruit, grain, or flower that you want to grow? Truth be told there are already shortages due to skyrocketing orders following concerns about potential food production failures. What about current price inflation or even future hyperinflation? Prices are already increasing dramatically for seed and are even worse for store-bought garden plants! What if seed companies fail or transportation and mail delivery become unreliable? What if seed sales are banned? As strange as that may seem, the governor of Michigan banned for a time the sale of all garden materials including seeds in certain stores during Spring 2020 due to Covid-19. They were deemed “not necessary.” These are all things to ponder.

A special section is included later in this series about the high protein cereal amaranth which is easy to grow and in a small space producing “up to a half pound of grain” per seed head or more. You won’t want to miss this topic. We’ve tried rye, wheat, and millet with unsatisfactory results so we tried Golden Giant Amaranth with some interesting results. You won’t want to miss this honest review!

Also included is an excellent super productive food to conquer starvation. This is a don’t miss
