If You Are In The Fast (Left) Lane On The Interstate And Are Going The Speed Limit...

And for you brake checkers on the interstate... There's a special place in hell for you.

That time of the year again to endure our out of town drivers.

If I am going faster than traffic, and I am passing cars, stay off of my a$$. Also, a lot of cars now use adaptive cruise control that will apply the brakes if another vehicle is too close or slows down in front of them...that brake light may not be intended to piss you off, just to warn you that the car in front of you is adjusting to traffic.

Yeah they're starting to show up, the driver in question is from... Ohio.

Nothing against Ohio, just seniors from Ohio, who live here half the year and fuck up our roads.
Connecticut and Pennsylvania too.

Legally, the passing lane was designed for drivers to pass other drivers who are driving under the speed limit. Going 5 to 20 miles over the speed limit is only going to shave a fraction of time anyway.

A lot of times the driver in front of you in the passing lane is using cruise control and the driver he intended on passing began matching his speed once the passing maneuver was engaged. Just flash your high beams once or twice to signal you're wanting to break the law by going faster than the limit. Chances are that the driver in front of you will cooperate. Those drivers are generally not trying to suppress your desire to flaunt your rebellious behavior.

Here in NJ, people tailgate me on non-interstates even if I'm already speeding.

Interestingly enough... I've never had to tell a Canadian driver to go fuck themselves.

The rules of the road can be riddled with situational pitfalls so it stands to reason a person should be exercising defensive driving. I recommend a front and back video capture with at least a terabyte of recordable space. It's getting bad out there.

Actually, here... On the interstate. If you are MOVING SLOWER THAN TRAFFIC in the left lane (yes passing lane), even if traveling the speed limit, you can get pulled.

I'm not talking about the road you live on or a county road but the Interstate. I-75 to be precise.

You're absolutely right about the fast lane.

But if I'm going the speed limit or 5 over in the slow lane and you tailgate me, I'll brake check your ass into oblivion.

Had to brake check a teenager the other day. They were literally 2 feet off my bumper, maybe less. Close enough to make eye contact in my rear view and mouthed the words BACK THE FUCK OFF...after her half eye roll I brake checked her and I think she screamed.

She went to 4 cars lengths back after that until they disappeared.

Actually I got this info from the famous Arizona Sheriff from LivePD. I forget his County and name but I'm sure you know of him.

He was pulling people over for only going the speed limit in the fast lane. It was rush hour and he said he let's vehicles in groups travel 80mph. If everyone is traveling safe it ensures a nice flow until some jerkoff thinks he's a cop and wants to slow everyone down.

His words not verbatim tho. He read the statute on TV citing that if you are traveling slower than the flow of traffic regardless of your speed, you need to move asap.

People we're dumbfounded and pissed when pulled and cited. He gave them the statute and asked them to read it. It was funny.

The statute in FL reads the same. If you're moving slower than the flow of traffic move.

It even says it on the huge fucking signs IN BIG BRIGHT BULBS.

Oh really? So if we are both driving somewhere that is 60 miles away, and you drive at 60 mph, and I drive at 80mph, that 20 mph over the speed limit will only shave a fraction of time? 20 minutes in one hour is a FRACTION of time?


On a 3 hour trip for you at 60mph, I will get to the same place an HOUR earlier then you if I drive 80 mph.

It's the worst here in Texas because of all the transplants from Cali, etc. And the Okies.

A few months ago on the way to see my mother in the hospital, some slow, stupid, passive aggressive left-lane-riding bitch was front of me on I-35. Finally decided to pass her on the right and get on down the road, and she swerved and brake-checked me. I ended up on two wheels and nearly flipped my SUV trying to not hit her. She could've killed killing my wife, son, and me--an entire family, just because she was being an asshole. I swear women are worse road-ragers than men.

I always drive 1 mph under the speed limit and cruise control it on the highway. In the right lane of course.

Been pulled over going 2 mph over before in a 65. So i don't play anymore.

Oklahoma law now says no blocking the left lane. Doesn’t matter the speed. If you get passed by someone in the right lane, regardless of speeds, you get the ticket.

Cruise control should be banned in left lane. As a former fulltime driver, I’ve seen more than a half dozen times when a semi blows a tire and some car takes the hit. Some people pass trucks taking up to 5 minutes. Get pass or stay behind but not to next to semis.

Washington law is if you have 5 or more cars behind you and none in front, pull over.


Times are finally catching up.

I used to have an old Chevy C10 with a straight six with three on the floor. It had 33x12 all terrain on it with a three inch lift and it was ugly as hell. I would drive as fast as the sheet metal on the floor would allow down the freeways in the left lane and when I came up on an asshole being all parental and shit, I would come up behind them at full speed and just before making contact I would push the clutch in and release it. It was a jake brake from hell because it would lock the drive train up and those big ass tires would howl on the pavement. Never had anyone stay in the in the fast lane after that.
