The term is self deprecating NOT self defecating

Sat in a meeting today, met 5 of my new mid level managers, went around the room and asked them to provide an overview of their teams strengths.

Pretty boring until I get to Bill, when I get to Bill he starts telling me how great Bob is, Bob has years of experience, very knowledgeable yet humble, as a matter of fact his self "defecating" humor keeps the team laughing.

I did a double take and said, what keeps the team laughing (figuring I either heard him wrong OR he would realize his mistake and correct himself) he states once again, you know, his self defecating humor is hilarious some times.

I said that must get messy, (again hoping he would realize he was using the wrong word) he still didn't get it, he shrugged and nervously laughed saying, yeah, I guess so.

Some day I will clue him in, for now just thought I'd come here and make fun of him.
