The old anti-war alternative left counterculture were the ones that first noticed rampant consumerist society and brought into mainstream awareness...Timothy Leary, Andy Warhol made a career out of it, etc.

Then George Romero picked up on that train of thought with his zombie flicks.

I miss counter-culture. Died with John Lennon pretty much.
