Some people grant themselves and others powers to rule over other people. Initially, some of their intentions are good otherwise the people being ruled would clash with them.

Time goes on.

Then, the rulers grant themselves more and more privileges, and insulate themselves more and more from the classes they rule over.

Tyranny shows its ugly head, but bread and circus keeps people in line.

Then, the circus itself becomes corrupt, the players are making billions, and the bread is replaced by junk food.

People revolt, a virus is released, lockstep initiated, fear mongering with media involvement, restrictions and mass surveillance with covid passports and constant reminders of their control.
