I don't like living in the NY/NJ area, but traveled around and found that I can really only have the highest standard of living in places like the Northeast Coast and West Coast. Start wandering into the middle states and the wages plummet. I'm in I.T., so your experience may be different.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8460826 Come to Tennessee. Instant 10-13% pay raise with no income tax, and lower sales tax. Quoting: Flying Elvii What are you doing? Be quiet! Tennessee is being ruined by wealthy liberals from California. I'm surrounded by them on my block and I'm miserable. The gay mafia also took over 20 years ago, the entire midstate area is blue and ruined. TN has the highest sales tax in the nation and we have a capital gains tax of 6% which kills seniors living on a savings. The core of Nashville has officially become a neighborhood of Los Angelos meets New York City, everything is glammed out and characterless. Lines at least 10 deep everywhere for crap coffee and no real social contact anymore, the fabric of the town has drastically changed in one year. Everything is geared towards gen zs, tourism, students and famous people, the local fabric of the town is broken. You have to live an hour outside of town to get any decent quality of life that resemble the old days. I give it two years before even the 60 mile radius isn't far enough and even deeper rural towns will gentrify. Houses go in the crapiest town within days now. It is extremely tough for seniors to relocate. I have a lot of personal challenges to meet to be able to relocate. Don't encourage people to move to Tennessee, it's not a place for many people. Tell them to go to Austin.
