That matters. Military versions use chrome lined barrels because they last longer. 5.56 pushes a whole lot of gas down a small diameter bore and bore erosion over time is real. Also, if you are like most and don't periodically clean it, the chrome moly stands up to corrosion better. Don't listen to people that say chrome lines barrels are less accurate. USMC hits targets at 500m with open sights. If it's accurate enough for the Marines, it's accurate enough for you. You can get a pistol AR with a pistol brace, with shorter barrels. Check your local laws before purchase. Go to the AR15 website and educate yourself, then just go get entry level PSA, S&W, RRA or the Armalite if oz matter than much and be done with it. Don't overthink the purchase, and if you do, just get an LMT and be then you can really be done with it. |

That's a good one for close quarters, and with an additional $200 optical sight, should be good out to 150 yds. When you are afraid of losing your life, you have already lost your life. Don't be afraid. |

User ID: 81000231 United States 10/13/2021 07:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Okay gun guys (and girls), I’m looking to get into an AR-15. Husband is an AK guy but he’s found an Armalite AR-15 LTC that weighs 6lbs unloaded. It has a 16” barrel. He said that was pretty much the lightest AR but that GLP was filled with gun knowledge people and see what someone here says. Quoting: Truth Brush Anyway, I’m looking for a lightweight AR that’s as short as possible without having to go through NFA tax stamp hassles. My price range is $900-$1200; $1200 being pretty much max. I’m trying to get advice before I go to purchase because I’m sure they’ll think I’m just a dumb girl and they’ll try and sell me what they have instead of what I want: a short and light AR. Get an AR pistol and a brace. Lightweight, short barrel, no tax stamp. From many, covfefe |

(note there is no forward assist or dust cover on these) if you get a sport 2 you get those features. Despite the price all you want is to pull the trigger and have the round hit the target. No need for a Daniels Defense. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78113985 Light weight, vs. kick does not matter in a gun battle. As long as the rifle feels good in your hands and you can train with it then your golden. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80751884 Having a little weight to it reduces the kick into your shoulder and can be much more comfortable to shoot. People like to drag on them but I recently purchased an AR-10 full rifle and an AR-15 16" kit that I built using a PSA stripped lower. It was very easy to do with a little YouTube instruction. Both rifles function great for what I want them for. I'm not really a huge gun guy I just want decent arms and they do the job at a great price. It's in there mission, to arm the citizens at a reasonable price and in my opinion they are doing a great job at it. |

Well to be fair the AR platform even just the AR-15 comes in way more calibers then just 5.56 but your probably right as i doubt the OP was asking about anything other then the "standard" 5.56 AR-15. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78113985 United States 10/13/2021 07:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So a couple of things. First, since your man likes AK's, you should consider a 300 blackout AR15 pistol. It will be very comparable to his AK is many aspects. Second, depends on what state you live in for all of this, so that is important. Anyways, get a 30 cal brake with an out the front cover. It will help reduce the kick, and also send sound down range rather than to the side. Next, arm brace, but add on a folding stock attachment. As for barrel, get a nitrided barrel. They will be more accurate than the chrome ones, and last as long if not longer. That's been a back and forth battle for years which is better. Most people don't shoot 10k rounds of both to compare. I like to buy parts on deltateamtactical. It's the walmart of gun parts, so not the best quality always, but none of my guns have failed me. If you've shot enough, get a 3 pound trigger. It makes everything complete. Good luck. You will shoot better with an AR if you get a scope, compared to his AK. They are usually pretty worn out by the time normal people own them. So usually not the most accurate. Quoting: miedoso And here they come! They are all good as long as they work and do the job. I say again look at S&W may you find your happy rifle! |

Your gonna want to attach a forend grip, a rail, a laser in green, another laser in red, a red dot, a magnifier on a tilt mount, a long range side mount scope, and side pockets for your fishing gear and a knife. Lot of people forget that. If your real serious get the stock that olds your tent. |
