Energy vampires are easy to recognize. They are usually narcissists and takers not givers. They love talking about themselves, could care less about others and are often very loud people.
When you spend any amount of time around them, you are drained, possibly have a splitting headache and zero energy left.
For some reason, energy vamps have gravitated to me my entire life.

I have had to learn ways of removing myself from situations and simply removing vamps from my life. It has actually been very fulfilling and uplifting.
