On the issue and in general I highly recommend reading "The origins of war in child abuse" by psychohistorian Llyod deMause. Among many other things and societal implications he also goes alot into those regular human mass hysterias as part of "growth panics" and the "upheaval phase" of the collective psychological cycle. Alot of what's going on in recent years, reminds me of what I read in it.

Bible believers today reject TRUTH for a 'created image'- a tolerant "god" who understands them. A "god" who tolerates their sins and gives them a fly-away escape from tribulation.
A lie. A false image has been created - in their minds.
A man-made image - of an "unconditionally loving god" created by weaving together favorite verses.

Loving lies in exchange for Truth.
Believing theories - instead of Truth.
The REAL and LIVING GOD - TRUTH - is rejected.

Few seek Truth. Few find Truth.
Few become disciples of Jesus Christ and follow Him.

God gives people over to their deceptions. He gives them up.
They CHOOSE to believe men's doctrines or invented images.

Jesus said,
"I am the way, the TRUTH and life."
"Follow Me"

Jesus' words are LIFE.
Bible believers of today want men's theories and doctrines.
They don't want Jesus. They want lies.

They don't love TRUTH. Jesus is the Living God - TRUTH.
