If the Earth truly were an "oblate spheroid" rotating at 1037 mph at the equator, the centrifugal forces of the edge velocity would tear it to pieces. It's not the "radians per hour" that matters. It's edge velocity. Any honest mechanical engineer will agree.  Sorry but I have to insist: If you want to use a basketball as a scale model of Earth you need to understand that for it to spin at the same equivalent speed of Earth, it would also have to spin at 3,125 cm/hour. Just then the radial motion would be properly scaled down. I am using the size 7 basketball measures, with a perimeter of 75 centimeters, and rounding up the duration of the day to 86.400 seconds. Did I mention basketballs? No, I did not. The "Globe Earth" is, allegedly, 24,901 miles in circumference at the equator. Its edge velocity is considerably faster than the speed of sound at sea level. Centrifugal forces would rend it asunder!
