ICBMs or hypersonic missiles should not need to go more than 1/2 way around the Earth to reach any target. Hypersonic missiles traveling at sealevel generate a lot of heat from friction with the air. Some hypersonic missiles are built of materials that can withstand 3,600 F, some can travel 3,600 miles, and some can reach 3,600 mph. Space shuttle re-entry temperatures can reach 2,600 F.
