He should have upgraded to the gold plan.....he got silver plan treatment...

Exactly what I was thinking.

When you turn 62 you also get a big fat bill that you have to pay--for the "supplemental Medicare". I know some retires that spend their entire SS payment for the big fat Medicare bill.

I don’t, I just use savings or checking account to pay those small balances.

Your country let's diabetics die if they don't have insurance and can't afford insulin.

What's surprising here?

Small in total compared to a monthly Supplemental insurance payment is what I mean.

That's just health care rationing from a communist health care system. All the refugees and illegals getting health care paid for from public tax money leaves even less for guys like this. BTW, his medical problem of sepsis from a urinary infection is exactly what Bill Clinton was said to have. You can see the vast difference in the quality of care they had.

Still an unpleasant surprise when you finally get there, to find out you must pay into Medicare to get decent coverage.

For example, Medicare will pay to pull all your teeth out, but do not consider dentures essential. So, in Oregon you see a lot of toothless poor people.

I thought we all paid into that all our lives.

When this happens it is due to violence against the staff and other patients.
In 1839 20-year-old George Sumner sailed from the US to Russia, as supercargo on freighter. He carried with him an acorn, taken from the grave of Washington. He talked his way into the presence of Czar Nicholas I and presented the Acorn as a gift from America. The Czar was charmed. The story....

Become old and sick, and you are disposed of with less care than a bag of trash.
 Quoting: Tiger One

Sadly, that's been true for a long time.

My own grandmother died of malnutrition and dehydration in 1969 in the hospital!

I don't know why my aunt gave me a copy of her death certificate, but she did.....
 Quoting: sseess

I am so sorry ! My husband passed away from cancer last year in June. Me and the kids took care of him at home, no hospice. Hospice, IMO, is absolutely worthless. All they would have done, was come once a day for an hour, look him over, and ask if we needed meds. You cannot leave while they are there either, so no break for you.

Medicare supplements are optional. I just have regular medicare, no extra coverage or any of then other parts.
My mother had 2 separate supplements to her medicare, plus the drug coverage through medicare. The coverage was redundant, and we tried to convince her to drop one of the supplements and she wouldn't do it.The thing with the supplements is, they will not pay for anything that medicare doesn't authorize or cover.
The all-in-one plans are bad too, like Humana. When my brother messed up his hip playing baseball, he needed a hip replacement. He had Humana, and had to come up with $7,000 upfront to have the surgery !

Blacks have disproportionately benefitted from Medicaid, food subsidies, housing subsidies, and general cash welfare since Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society" starting in 1964. Expanded to special "extra pounts" for job qualifying under Carter in late 70's. And correctional facility beds, too.

Medicare doesn't pay for any dental. Medicaid does, but there is a limit on what they pay and what they cover. Say you have to have all your teeth pulled. They will not pay for anesthesia, but will pay for your gums to be numbed. So, you get jabbed literally dozens of times to get your mouth numbed to get all your teeth pulled. This happened to a disabled family member who had medicaid, and I witnessed it. It was pure torture. The numbing agent didn't work very well. For something like this, you really need to be knocked out, but medicaid would not pay for it.Medicaid did pay for the dentures, though.

Something similar to this happened to my late husband when he was hospitalized for the 5th time, due to pneumonia and other issues besides his terminal cancer. They called me up at 2pm and told me he had to be out of there by 4pm. This hospital he was at, was almost an hour drive away. It took 2-3 people to handle my husband at this point. My daughters were not available until after 5, they were at work. I told the hospital we would be there about 6pm as I couldn't get him by myself. They couldn't wait. They called me back and said a nurses aid was dropping him off at home. At 4pm, a woman in a minivan pulled up, opened the side door, and was trying to get my dying husband out of the minivan. He has no clothes, just a hospital gown on, no underwear, no jacket,no shoes, nothing but the hospital gown. I got him in the door. He died in his sleep 2 1/2 weeks later.

So, my husband, a Marine Corp Veteran, who had medicare, was treated like shit, and basically dumped at the curb.

"cleared as fit to leave by TWO PHYSICIANS"

Paramedic responding to collapsed man diagnosed him with Urinary Tract infection, signs of SEPSIS, and a fever.

Prognosis

Physicians get promoted. Medicare pays bonus to hospital.
 Quoting: Your Huckleberry

YOur prognosis is 180 degrees from what will likely happen in my experience. The physicians will be questioned by hospital attorneys and admin, and they will also be questioned, as will the hospital, by CMS. The Medical Board will likely be interested as well. High monetary fines and injunctions are likely, too, from CMS.

Once this patient's relatives find out, they will hire attorneys to file suit against physicians and hospital.

Medicare part B, that pays for doctor's bills (part A is hospital coverage and free for most people), is not mandatory!!!

You do not have to pay out of your SS check if you do not want this coverage!

Considering the state of our deathcare in this country, who would be so foolish to pay these ghouls to kill them?!

And at 65 when Medicare activates for individuals, the doctors have several years to kill you before you reach full retirement and begin taking out your retirement money!!!

Decline Medicare!!!

Just say NOOOOOOOO!

edited to correct typo to 65: note that those now turning 65 and being put on Medicare don't reach full retirement until 66 yrs. 7 monthes... plenty of time to off you from 65 on!!!

I know, but if you want decent coverage you need it, if you don't have other insurance.

Avoiding doctors and hospitals whenever possible, is the best idea, though.

I have not been to a doctor for 20 years except when I sprained my ankle real bad a few years ago.

My excellent health is the result of staying away from them! And nutrition and exercise, of course.
