Re: I've had enough
For the third time, the military recruiters have called my cell phone (we don't have a land line) asking to speak to my son. I have told them he is not interested and not to call again. Tonight the Srgt. Cp. Whoeverthefuck, told me they would keep calling until they spoke with him. That THEY need to see if he meets certain qualifications that THEY are interested in. WHAT THE FUCK? I said, "He is MY son and not 18 and YOU WILL NOT SPEAK TO HIM." She said, "You know what mam....." and then she shut up and told me to have a nice day and hung up.

This pisses me off to no end.

Re: I've had enough
The way she said, "We need to see if he meets certain qualifications we are looking for...." sounded very aggressive. Like it didn't matter what he or I wanted... Maybe it's just me, but I didn't like how that sounded.

Don't fall for the patriotic bullshit. It's a guilt trip. The play goes like this: They'll make you feel guilty one way or another. If you give in, they get your kid. Train him/her, feed him/her, indoctrinate (not a bad thing to do if they're sending you to a hostile place and you have to be desensitised to kill for the sake of life), send 'em to any place in the world to do what they are trained for. It's business. Been there, done that.

Sometimes to do things they are not trained to do but what the hell, they signed up. They owe your kid. So, your kid dies. You get a flag, official rites, probably a medal that you could show your friends and relatives, and you'll be able to say, he/she died doing what he/she enjoyed doing. Maybe buy a yellow ribbon. Maybe make a memorial so one day you'll realize that he's dead. Been there, done that.

Every glory and medal belongs to him/her. Rightfully so...he/she signed up for whatever benefits and rewards and adventure. Sorry don't mean to sound insensitive. There are good men and women in our military but you have to understand, they are serving on their own accord. Unless they get drafted, have no choice, then die. Or live and have emotional and psychological problems they keep within their own heads for the rest of their lives. Sorry, after the yellow ribbons, flowers, medals fade away, all you got left is an empty room. Been there, done that.

You have a right to be pissed off. Good for you. Don't fall into the guilt trap. It's deadly. Been there, done that.

Tell your son to keep his nose extremely clean if he ever wants to get into Canada because unlike the Vietnam years everyone entering Canada now is checked against a data bank and if your son has as much steals a chocolate bar he will be denied entry.

If he doesn't have a police record there's really no way for them to stop him from coming here. If he already has a police record tell him not to even waste his time trying.

Good luck.

Also I believe, those re-entering into the United States from Canada, are checked again. What does this mean? They can refuse or arrest the person depending on your situation.

Quit whining and be proud of sacrificing your son for a worthy cause instead of letting him rot playing Nintendo.

I am disturbed, and will be contacting the local forces to investigate your IP and have your identity tracked so they can meet your son at a local convenience store and do something good for the USA.

I look forward to your son's enlistment, and you can be proud whether he returns or dies, that he fought to protect this country from terrorists.

I am part of the forces and will track your son down for the interest of our country, and he will join, he will go out there and fight, and be a man til his dying breath, not some cowardly kid.

...and what does your son think about it?. I am asking, because I think the recruiter is going to take it personal and look for your kid at school and everywhere else. This recruiters have a huge ego and they don't like to be "nagged" by a rebellious 'mom'.

In their minds, you won a battle, but not the war.

"There are aptitude tests given at most schools, in the junior and senior year - that are created by the military and the results are shared with the military."

It isn't just the military gets the results all the spooky outfits get them too. Then if you head on to college they do their best to recruit you into their "game".

Re: I've had enough
The Navy got me straight from high school. I truly do believe it's the best choice I could have made at that point. I was a slacker who always did things at the last minute. I didn't take the SAT until the day after I graduated! In the Navy I've learned self discipline, a lot of trade skills (I'm an engineer), and have seen a pretty good chunk of the world (mostly the liquid parts). I've been in seven years, and it's still fun. You do hear some horror stories, but that's mainly the Army and Marines. They were the really aggressive recruiters. I'd say let your son give it an honest look. If he's really not interested, then let him tell them where to go and what to do. They stop calling after that. That's how I got the Marine recruiter to leave me alone.
It's good to be open-minded, just don't let your brain fall out.

Re: I've had enough
A whole year after I had enlisted I got a call while at
home on leave from the Navy. I spoke with the recruiter
for a little while until I finally told him that my USAF
squadron commander might not like me joining the Navy.

It's bad times for recruiters these days, but I feel no
sympathy for them. Too many of them engage in the very
least in lies of omission, and too many just out right
lie.

Hey agent, I have the phone number for the guy at the Pentagon that is in charge of recruiting. You can give him a call & get your sons number removed.

Re: I've had enough
im 27 now and never have been bothered by recruiters . My father was in nam and in for 5 years till 71 when he left and became a painter for 10 years..then in 80 went back in the marines for 22 years leaving as a E-9.

no random calls whatsoever in my life to join the services, although once a army recruiter saw me outside smoking a smoke waiting for my gf to get her hair done..he came up to me "son have you thought about your future" I said yeah and it wont be in the military, he huffed off lol

i respect the military great, but have no desire to join unless the shit hits the fan, iw ill go in a heart beat if drafted.

Horrible. Tell recruiters where to go. Those bitches have obtained the position that they wont ever have to fight again if they promise to round up fresh meat.
