They are generated by the vents causing small explosions along with concussion.

Huh.

Cleaning out my desk and found a post it note referring to a post I had on the other thread page 1559.

It hit me that maybe I misinterpreted the report put here recently written for the nuclear power plants. It talked about a 1 to 3 meter wave (3 to 9 feet). I said that would wipe out the low barrier Islands ( elevation 0 to 3 feet, maybe 6 in places) but hopefully spare the nukes and chemical plants.

Here was my old post:

Regarding a one meter tsunami, a prediction I've seen here a few times by the more optimistic scenarios:

Tsunamis range in size from inches to over a hundred feet. In deep water (greater than 600 feet/180 meters), tsunamis are rarely over 3 feet (1 meter) and will not be noticed by ships due to their long period (time between crests). As tsunamis propagate into shallow water, the wave height can increase by over 10 times.Tsunami heights vary greatly along a coast.

[link to www.quora.com (secure)]

A one meter/3 foot tsunami wave would slam the east coast as at least a 30 foot wave. While terrible for the barrier islands and ports, it obviously is not as bad as a 10 foot tsunami slamming in as a 100 foot wave. But neither is it a nothing burger.

So a one meter to 3 meter wave hits the east coast as maybe 30 to 90 feet. Is that what the report was saying? I feel confused now.

Maybe there is no room for optimism at all and with all the chemicals everywhere the coast will be a barren wasteland for decades? What exactly do these guys predicting a 1 meter to three meter wave imply for the east coast when that wave hits shallow water? Or are they talking about the size of the wave hitting USA land?

Anybody with more sense than me know the answer? Thanks.

The biggest tsunami recorded was 1,720 feet tall. Lituya Bay, Alaska.

This is Japan in 2011 50-60 miles north of Fukushima. 20 miles north of this location the wave was estimated at 40 meters. I don't know how high it is in this video because I cannot tell how far inland this is. But this is what a tsunami going over flat land will look like. The waves are not the surfing type.

I'm beginning to like this guy.

He goes with what he sees. That's great stuff, as far as it goes. The point is they (anybody any where near this thing) don't understand 'risk' and the danger that goes along with it. That whole island is dangerous right now. Dangerous enough to warrant evacuation - but they don't. Go figure.

Maybe he will run to a cave on the north side at the last minute, if there is a last minute.

if you can point me to where emsc says quakes are moving north or any actual evidence other then some retard on the internet sayin so please inform me cuz i looked at last 30 day quakes on ign site and there is like 8 quakes in last 30 days that are north of the eruption site and just as many to the south of the magma chamber which tells me they are totally insignificant

sorry to sound like a jerkoff but im an asshole and i dont deny that at all... but i try to keep things realistic and factual... spewing utter bs is just as bad if not worse then tptb down playin and minimizing the situation and only takes away any and all credibility

I don't see a big difference between BS and anger. They both don't belong here.

I'm not saying the target of your objection is BS. That's you're belief and I'm fine with that. But how different is being rude in comparison.

Anger or BS, they both are a disservice to the higher purpose of this thread. You'll get a lot further by giving respect for people. Trust me, a LOT of crap flies through GLP. It's nothing new. If you try to shovel the crap you'll be forever busy knee deep in shit. Instead, find the gems, the right people.

I hope you see the light and participate here. Always room for another sharp mind.

What is fact and what is not isn't so black and white. We tread that grey area. Clinging to known facts is a reliable way to keep your hands clean. But if we are to dig through government lies and media censoring, some facts melt into lies and some BS suddenly becomes truth when the puzzle is solved.

It seems this eruption could last for months and months.

For locals dreadful. Is it going to blow big time like Krakatoa?

Anyone's guess, but if we take into account that Island is nothing but top of one huge and rather old Vulcanic mountain that came to being as a result of various eruptions I kind of doubt it. That mountain is everything but fragile.

Landslides on the other hand remain bigger possibility and whole a lotta shallow shaking is for sure worrisome.

All that Lava...no wonder those hot spots produce such large Vulcanic mountains and Islands. Tons and Tons of Lava go out through those. It seems much more then those that are on tectonic borders on the land, judging by the height of the mountains.

La Palma, Canary or Hawaii islands, dwarf Himalay mountains in size.

Yeah it is already bad. Is it going to get even worse? Eruption already broke all of the La Palma records for the last couple of centuries so it is unusual. But if we take even longer time span perhaps not that unusual.

Do not use the IGN map, go to emsc-csem.org for a more accurate picture, go to interactive maps. Compare the two. Magnitude 6.0+ quakes warnings at some point are from the Spanish authorities. You're jumping in here with no idea what was discussed weeks ago.

There is a shitpot of strait line riffs in the entire area.

Just look at a detailed seafloor map. No, they don't loolk like plate boundary subduction but they may still make a slip fault like quake.

To your credit a quake larger than say 5.5 seems very unlikely. And unnecessary given that the thousands of smaller ones are doing a fine job of upping the drama level.
