Ya know, if she is going to explode or the flank is going to shake off in a quake, winter is the best time. Much less loss of life.

The east coast population explodes in summer by the beaches. Shore towns and barrier islands are packed with renters. All the way from Maine down to at least SC, the population shrinks greatly in winter. (Not sure about GA-Fla, maybe the coast gets more populated in winter.)

Here in NJ the summer beach backups Saturday AM can go for hours. If you had to suddenly evacuate the entire coast I don't know if it could be done. Many islands have one or two bridges for thousands of cars, and then inland with trying to get 10 or 20 miles away west, from not only the ocean but the bays and inland waterways, well, I am dubious it is possible.

Obviously if the eruption just stopped that would be a relief, but given that it appears to be getting worse, maybe we should all be grateful if it happens during east coast winter.

On the other hand, with refugees, and power plants going down, summer might be a better time for disaster. More vacationers drowned but more lives saved in broad swathes of inland areas?

Its all bad. I can't even guess the best scenario. Little cracking bits of flank with little waves slowly happening over days sounds the best. But if this guy is right and we get Mt St Helens #2, well, sounds like the big T to me.

Speaking off animals...I've wondered what deep sea creatures are found dead floating on water or washed up onshore. I did see one news blip recently.

Tell tale sign of shit going off at deep depths we'll never knew about unless movement of land registers.

This current status of our bitchin' volcano does not bode well.

A tsunami's propagation velocity is reduced in shallow water, while the height of it's waves rapidly increases.

Water moving at 25 mph has the pressure equivalent of wind blowing at 790 mph, faster than the speed of sound.
