A powerful earthquake of 5.1 magnitude earthquake has struck the popular tourist islands of Madeira on Wednesday, said the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

The quake was at a depth of 30 km (18.64 miles), EMSC said and struck near Funchal, on Madeira, part of Portugal.

Many people have reported the terrifying experience of rooms rocking due to the force of the earthquake.

One person tweeted: "I was in my bed and damn it... it was scary. The bed shook all over.

"What's going on man? .... There was just an earthquake here on my Island - Madeira. And it was very strong. I'm scared!!!!"

Quite the shake event for all islands. This fairly powerful quake is after several large quakes along the Atlantic rift and Gibraltar area. La Palma was hit hardest by the shock.


Several sharp aftershocks for La Palma. All the seismic signals everywhere were flatline for 24 hrs. then boom.

200+ tremors for La Palma in 30 days. Half the tremors were 6 mi below ocean bed. Gassing won't let up from steady rate. RSAM trending up. They didn't want to see that.
Whatever fed La Palma volcano has had the neighboring islands popping occasional deep water quakes, lots of shallow, and the always steady low but strong seismic noise.

It was a fun 3 months on this one.

Not over. Snake event still active.

I know something big is coming. I felt the same kind of intensity in prayer the end of 2019, and never guessed we'd get a pandemic. For me this is round 2 time.

I still watch this thread every day, because while I read posts online about maybe nukes and maybe a solar flare and maybe cyber terrorism with banks and the grid and maybe this or that, it seems most plausible that the overdue and over stressed fault lines are going to rip. And that flank on La Palma doesn't need an eruption to slide, a good quake could do it. Or it could be Cascadia first, and the New Madrid.

Every single scenario ends up at the same place- do all the practical preparing that you can, and pray for God's mercy on us.

The Romania quakes are worrying me. If they keep this up, we'll have another M9 there, which will be utterly catastrophic and be felt from Finland to Greece. Moscow will crumble for sure.
