Unless a tidal wave or huge fire is threatening you then best to shelter in place if you can’t afford to leave or don’t want to leave. I have close friends that are not listening either . Their plan is to shelter in place . Let me put this bluntly ....... This is simply NOT going to be an option for some . You will be relocating . You can either plan for it or not . One should always entertain bugging out as an option. Your area gets hit by a tsunami, swept by wildfire, nuclear fallout or your house falls in a sinkhole - bugging in as an option, really isn't a practical option. Now, being ABLE to bug out, depends on you having made preparations to be able to exercise that option. Check out "Listening to Katrina" (the site with no name) for good recommendations on how to do this properly. Having said that... most kinds of disaster or "situation", you have more control of your situation and more options by remaining where you are - again, this depends on your having made provision for it. If all the public utilities fail, how survivable is your home? Year round? When humans lived a nomadic lifestyle, and problems arose in one area, they would simply pack up camp and relocate to more favorable circumstances. During the ice age, that really wasn't an option as the hard times were virtually everywhere and there was no escaping it. Life got hard, many died, others adapted. Those are the options still on the table ... pick up and run, or face the challenge head on and survive (if you can). Either way, you had to be in a position to exercise the option, and that means looking ahead and making provision. Most people are deluded on how easy it is to continue a reasonable semblance of a livable "life" under austere conditions. It's not for the faint of heart. Even a modest investment in bettering your options can make a HUGE difference. |
