The body produces methane during the digestive process. Maybe some people’s system become completely saturated with the gas, ie. blood and organs and an ignition source starts the combustion. Unless there are readily flammable objects near the body, the inferno is confined to the body.

Thanks for that. There were some definite spiritual battles that summer! That is a weird town. It's grown up a lot since back then. But it attracted many bohemian types...If you've seen the contents of that box of crazy that was going around the web a few years back then you've seen some illustrations of the waterfront there.

I have no story about spontaneous human combustion, but when I was a teenager, my back (love handle area of the small of my back to the spine) would get so hot it was nearly too hot to touch, while the rest of me remained a fairly normal temp. I remember remarking to my dad, and he didn’t know what to think of it.
