Guys like Baldwin are too used to having other people do everything for them. Some things are so important that you have to do them yourself. Checking a gun you are about to handle is one of those important things. I do t even own a firearm but everytime I have handled one I have checked to see if it was loaded . Sure as hell I was told it wasn’t and one of the 6 chambers had a bullet. Furthermore, another question that has gone under the radar is how the Baldwin shooting also led to the wounding of director Joel Souza. It wasn’t a “prop gun.” It was an actual gun that was being used as a prop. TMZ reported on the development that sources close to the filming of “Rust” indicate that the gun used in the incident was also used off-set for “target practice.” “The smoking gun that claimed the life of Halyna Hutchins might’ve been more than just an on-set prop — it was also being fired recreationally, even when cameras weren’t rolling,” TMZ reported. “Multiple sources directly connected to the ‘Rust’ production tell TMZ … the same gun Alec Baldwin accidentally fired — hitting the DP and director — was being used by crews members off set as well, for what we’re told amounted to target practice,” the report added. According to the BBC, a “prop gun” could mean a range of items, “from non-functioning weapons to cap guns… But it can also mean a real weapon, or one adapted for firing blanks.” However, Hollywood should ban the term from applying to actual firearms. All of these guns used in the USA for films are 'real guns.' Especially period revolvers--which just use blank ammo, which is brass that is crimped over without any type of wadding. These cartridges are specially made for films. So with a revolver used on a film--yes it is a real gun and not a reproduction toy that shoots caps. And yes a real round can be swapped into them and fired. As for semi-and full auto weapons--yes these are real weapons as well, but they are heavily modified to shoot blank, crimped ammunition---and modified from a pinned barrel adapter to modify the the blow-back or recoil operation. And if you were to put a live round in one of these types of weapons it would literally blow up in your face. Period rifles and bolt action guns like Mausers or lever action weapons are not modified--and they will shoot live ammunition. It is the responsibility of the 'armorer' or 'gun wrangler' who are heavily licensed individuals and heavily trained to handle weapons and control weapons on movie sets. I am speaking from experience here as I wrote several articles for major gun magazines on this subject and had unlimited access to the largest movie armories in California for my article. |

They aren't all real guns and they haven't been for a long time. Many productions use blank guns, non-firing props and rubber guns for stunt scenes. I realize they did all use real guns in the past but the practice was retired long ago. Some are even using airsoft guns and airguns now, especially low budget television shows like those seen on speciallty channels. Z Nation is a great example, watch it and you'll see the vast majority of guns are airsoft guns. Any modern prop master will tell you all about it and there are great interviews with many of the modern prop masters on youtube that you can watch. |

There's an entire industry that's existed since the sixties making fake guns for use in movies and tv shows and there's nothing to argue about. A simple google search or you tube search will show anyone that. Do they use real guns? Sure. Do they always? Nope. Did they in this case? Sounds like it. The end. Nothing to argue about and yes you tube is full of videos featuring prop masters showing people how the different prop guns work and explaining how when and why they get used. Some real, some blank, some don't shoot and some are solid props with no moving parts. End of discussion. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79724041 This was a planned homicide by someone. ^^^THIS^^^ They keep trying to make excuses for Baldwin, or now blame the crew, but it is HIS FAULT for not hiring the right people or making sure the guns were secured properly & used properly. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS WAS AN ACCIDENT. I think this was DELIBERATE even though I don't understand why at this point. Nobody, after the Brandon Lee and Hexum deaths, takes guns on set in this lax manner. THIS IS BALDWIN'S FAULT DIRECTLY AND PERSONALLY. |

Prop is short for “theatrical property”. Theatrical property is any part of the set that isn’t an actor. So a prop gun can be a real, functioning gun. |

None of these union guys would do that knowing someone could easily be killed unless they were deliberately setting up Baldwin for a murder rap - and even if they did that, they had no idea of who the victim might be - even one of their own friends or relatives. NOBODY DID THAT. THIS IS BALDWIN'S FAULT. Either he deliberately murdered this woman or he left the round in after his target practice. This gun should NEVER have been on the set. Why was he shooting off a gun when they were not even filming a SCENE? |
