That said; I do know enough about football that your scheme needs to be tailored to fit your players. That is why the '85 Bears were so good. Buddy Ryan and Mike Ditka, even though they couldn't stand each other personally could work together towards a common goal. That team was put together in years of drafts specifically for the scheme. This whole shoot it out does not fit Chicago and never will. Chicago is a smash mouth team always has been when they were a winning team. The stadium during the winter is conducive towards that style of play. Heavy dose of the run game and play-action passing. Win time of possession with long drives. 4-3 punishing defense. Once they got away from that the losing became endemic. They will never win while playing this way. No steady, solid run game to take pressure off the QB. No play action passing to keep the defense honest. No taking shots down field when open. Get used to losing. Things will not change because the Mackasky's don't care about winning as long as they continue to make money and sell out the stadium. Follow the money. |

He can’t fix or explain the debacle he and general manager Ryan Pace created. And, speaking of debacles, this one was a doozy. The Bears delivered one of the NFL’s worst performances of the season. At no point in their 38-3 loss Sunday to the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers did the Bears look as though they belonged in the same league. It had the feel of Western Carolina venturing out timidly to face Alabama for homecoming, and that’s inexcusable. It was so putrid that linebacker Roquan Smith said the path forward would be ‘‘sticking together and just flushing it,’’ but that toilet has been clogged with bad losses for a while now." source: [link to chicago.suntimes.com (secure)] |
